Welcome to the next part of my lengthy in-depth Honda review. The main subject for page is about the DN-01 economy, more HFT stuff and media commentary and comparison one of the fastest production motorcycles in the

The DN-01 is a special and unique Not many will consider it based on the un-reasonable purchase when new. Yes, the is probably the most unrealistically new motorcycle on the planet. You can buy a Hayabusa on for less in most countries. the lucky few who can afford a new one or find a one will appreciate it given a

Being the first Honda HFT they should be proud of the masterpiece. Honda and the DN-01 be praised for doing something and thanked for their commercial to move motorcycle design

I have focused on the HFT in the past because it is what I believe is the key to the Lets face it, the gearbox ensures that you are in the right However it is also the DN-01’s problem. The un-informed and lazy eg.

Wikipedia and suspect publications on the described it as a traditional CVT which is vaguely true. That’s saying a LCD is the same as a Plasma TV. HFT has the overall effect but works on the road or practically compared to transmissions described as (Scooter CVT.

Check out the specifications for the link to Honda’s own explanation of how the HFT

Honda also knew the majority of the popular press simply compare it to ‘shock’ a rather than obviously a or something different purely of the infinite gears and perhaps the exhaust note. The reality is of that they do it to presumably the review with some attitude — which of means the rest of the content is not reading.

To cater for the small other manufacturer’s have the more usual route to design to avoid the comparison is a pity Eg. Aprilia Mana actually uses a scooter transmission and storage but while it is rarely compared to a scooter.

The DN-01’s HFT has a manual mode is good. It changes the character of the DN. You read this in a HFT review else — changing the with the toggle switch it very much like a bike. Every gear is smoothness is gone replaces by is a responsive gear and engine and note. It feels just any other motorcycle.

Also regular CVTs the HFT produces engine breaking with the giving out quite a pleasant run effect for the off the throttle note. You can now feel the engine’s torque you along! You can hear the decent note.

The only feature ruins the fun is the lock-out feature. It you from changing down if it in red lining — which is enough. The DN is not about riding but its good to know that it is good manual bike

The DN-01’s fuel economy is good for a relatively large and motorcycle. At the last petrol I did 200km using under 10 of 95 Octane unleaded petrol. So a 15 litre tank you can get a maximum of 300km or an easy 250km in

Considering that the engine is new and I was busy trying out all the different it is a very good result and probably get better as have my motorcycles.

Now the comparison: I didn’t to do a Vs Hayabusa comparison because it is unfair both bikes. despite being completely types of motorcycles they can be for the same purpose. So — in everyday commuting I choose the every time. However if I the real motorcycle experience, power and riding enjoyment I the Hayabusa any time.

Each has its strengths and weaknesses and in all seriousness one is better really depends on how you a for the trip you are planning on doing.

Honda DN-01

Summary so far: The DN-01 is a motorcycle. Cool because its a ride and even non-motorcyclists it. I can say with certainty that if kept the price low it would be a choice. If Honda had also a regular gearbox, the package has going for it to sell well.

problems so far: creaking bar covers and the rear brake need to be lower. The only thing that could be is more power — but goes applies to most Other than that it really well.

Update: If you been riding 1000cc and sports motorcycle for a while you find the handling and performance of the DN easily. You see the DN’s engine has tuned for a extraordinarily FLAT curve which means you never miss out on the feeling of power. However at the same the smooth delivery and the lack of motorcycle vibes means you still don’t know speeds your travelling at or that excitement.

Finally, while the DN is not near the bike in the world it is still enough as a long term I often find the throttle when in manual mode quite satisfying because never happens on the Hayabusa.

I can confirm that used in mode the gearbox works like a regular gearbox. on really tight corners gearing is a tad too high and can’t be by extra lean because not enough ground clearance. As I previously the long wheelbase the same tight corners to take smoothly.

Sports handling or excitement wasn’t why I it so you shouldn’t expect it either.

(2012) After about and a much needed service I can that the engine has noticeably up and has much more top end power much appreciated when against strong head and over taking. I love the and calm power delivery hearing and seeing other and bikes rev out to keep up LOL:-) you I do miss the joy of revs at the same

Update: (2013) The DN-01 is with me but not travelling many One thing i did learn was that you to check the oil in the shaft drive. never had a shaft driven before so it was quite low.

The problem with the DN-01 is the sight glass for the oil level is by a plastic covering and the level always looks like it more oil.
