Honda joins the fun!

the FMX 650 Honda has made supermotard fun and accessible to a lot more people. are the days where you had to buy expensive with your XR enduro to get a supermotard. True, the ultimate is a CRF with supermoto wheels.

But FMX 650 is not ultimate performance, it’s honest and cheap fun.

Ever since Honda the FMX last year I have to ride it. Not because it is the most or the lightest supermoto. Just for the Honda has finally made one actually looks good. Our bike is fitted with a few from Acerbis and a tattoo kit.

The hand guards Acerbis are on Honda’s accessories along with the sticker It is a cheap way of transforming your FMX into a more mean street wise bike. bike is from Honda and I have 200 gruelling miles of motorways ahead of me before I can some fun in the twisties back And let me tell you straight away it is no fun riding on full throttle for miles on a big single.

Vibrations, no acceleration, no wind and poor fuel range a tiny fuel tank. But it is transp ortation and I guess it the same journey I did on a MZ 125 SM last As with any supermoto the bends to be as tight as possible. Instant from the big single is available and the MTR 01 tyres provide all the grip the FMX to stop and accelerate quickly.

As a and go bike nothing beats a and that is why, along the narrow design and low weight, are perfect for riding in towns and centres. The long wheel and good ground clearance sure those pavement can be tackled easily as well. The FMX 650 was going to be comfortable, but compared to the core supermotos from KTM or the FMX seat is more humane.

Seat height is 875mm.

The is a single cylinder air cooled … of 644cc. Power is a moderate 37bhp whilst is on torque where a decent is available at only 4,500rpm. The feels totally out of breath keeping the throttle open this. There is no rev counter on the but you notice that torque is all you got to play with. Which is fun, but in fourth and fifth there is no kick from the

Given these limitations, I to stay on the twistiest roads and in And the FMX does not disappoint on the B-roads.

grip and moderate power I can stay on the gas all the time and enjoy the level of grip the Pirelli provide (120/70-17 and 150/60-17). claims a 163kg dry weight is not too bad. Compared to top spec this is heavy, but as a beginner’s or second bike it is quite ok the chassis is solid making everything stays in shape.

FMX 650 wheelies just as well as any motard, but you do need to use the clutch in gear and all 37 bhp. Engine is an issue if you are not used to a big single-particularly if you run out of fuel whilst overtaking a The old carburettor design has got an old fashioned switch and if you think you are about to run out of it is just as well to switch to reserve sooner rather later.

I wanted to know how miles I could do on the motorway the reserve had to be turned on and it happened max 50 miles to min 70 miles. There is a 20 difference depending on whether you the throttle pinned all the time or To maintain motorway speeds it means keeping the throttle

And when you keep the throttle you don’t get much warning fuel stops dripping the carburettor and the engine braking sure you could be in a dangerous if you have not switched over to in time. The small fuel takes 11 litres whereas 3.8 are in reserve.

The two piston Nissin calliper grips around one big disc and is capable of efficient power. However they are to the brakes I have experienced on the spec supermotos. The 45mm fork provides 218mm of and provide great feedback the Renthal handlebars.

Styling is a point about the FMX 650. Our also features the Acerbis guards and a sticker kit that the bike even more The front mudguard is always an styling point on any supermotard and has pulled it off nicely without FMX 650 like every other The side panels look much the same as on the CRF which is a thing.

The double high exhaust is to keep noise and emission but also a cool feature makes the bike look than it is. You can safely park it your favourite coffee

I love both the way a looks and how it rides. Any supermoto is single minded and FMX 650 is no exception. I it on the motorway and loved it on the B-roads and in the Just as expected.

It might a few horsepower and it might be a bit on the heavy But FMX 650 is the perfect introduction to supermoto or in general. I would love one as my bike, but could never coped with it as my only due to all the motorway miles that I do.

The negatives are mainly due to the nature of a motorcycle rather than the in specific. Great fun for your

Fun and easy to ride in its environment
