New 2014 Honda Models

I was at the international motorcycle show in Chicago yesterday and saw for the first time a few new models from Honda I had yet to hear about.

All things related to last year’s new NC700X so it seems Honda is really seeing some future in that model. It’s really exciting to see some feature packed smaller displacement bikes coming around and getting popular.

First off the new 500 adventurer.

There’s not much info on the new 500 on the net and they didn’t have an expected MSRP on it at the show, but initial impressions are:

* Does this thing weigh like 50 lbs? It’s like sitting on air and was absolutely nothing to toss around.

* The full size helmet capable storage from the 700 is replaced by a more typically sized storage. The gas tank is also accessible there instead of under the seat like the 700 if I recall correctly.

* Seat/Position seems a bit more relaxed than the 700, but the seat height is still quite tall and the pegs are still very much standard vs cruiser.

Now the much more exciting CTX700.

Due to the styling and fairing options this is going to marketed as a sport bike I think, but the riding position and forward controls make it sit and feel much more like a cruiser than a standard or sport IMO.

This has the same 70mpg ultra-efficient parallel-twin as the NC700X, ABS options, and the murmors around the show floor were saying it had an optional automatic transmission . From what I could gather you could actually hit a button and change from manual to automatic. This sounds to me like a dream commuter bike.

Leave it in manual and blast on on-ramps, and in the bumper to bumper of a city you can flip it to automatic and not get hand cramps from all the clutch work.

So Honda’s 2014 contains this muscle styled sport/tour/cruiser/scooter hybrid. Love it or hate it you certainly have to give them props for outside the box thinking. I am the market for some beat up POS 500-600 sport or adventure bike that I can torture in downtown Chicago. Honda is seriously taunting me to say nuts to that and get one of their 2013/14 models.

Jerks! The reason for the beater is the other half of the equation in commuting. what happens when it’s parked and unattended all day on a city street. Stop offering me such ideal and pretty bikes that I’d be upset to find knocked over!

No new Shadows or the forever rumored V4 muscle bike were seen
