Hero Honda Sleek, Honda CD Dawn and Bajaj 100 cc.

A couple of days back got a to ride the Bajaj Platina of and the ride inspired me to write few about the different 100 cc bikes I’ve rode. So, let’s with the Great Grand of the three – the Hero Honda

Note: The figures of all the technical have been taken the November issue of the OVERDRIVE .

Hero Honda Sleek

begin with the technical One point note here is Hero Honda Sleek and Honda CD Dawn share the technical specifications as both of share the same CD 100 SL engine, so I be mentioning a generic technical for both the bikes.

When Dad bought this in the early 90’s ( not sure of the though ) it used to be a show Where ever my Dad went this bike, people to turn around and gaze the as we would do if some body us with a 1000 cc bike. I can remember the smoothness with it used to cruise through the traffic of Patna. With its rear and its smooth CD 100 SL series it had all the qualities by which it could every youngster dream at that time ( remember the tv ad. ).

But then I guess Hero saw some nightmare in broad and stopped the production of this and moved onto CD Dawn ( was a replacement of Sleek with the engine ). Well Hero as expertise in ruining its own move – what the company did with the CBZ.

Well due to lack of maintenance and lack of original the bike is now like a tiered and our race horse who’s waiting for its last few painful to get over, but even today when it goes out for a stroll, it fairly well.

The ride has no doubt gone down a I can feel vibes even the engine is on and the bike is idle. The comes with a lot of effort and the of original spares shows its on parts like head-lamp, indicators etc ( with the battery being a local one ). But then ladies and gentlemen, the gear box as smooth as you can imagine. There’s a lot needs to be done to make the work smooth or at least as smoothly as it used to be.

But the question here is would it the investment.

The bike did its job, did its job and weather not revive it still a question of usability and viability.

Honda CD Dawn

To begin I must confess that I was ever in favor of my brother a Hero Honda CD Dawn. The reasons being –

I’m never in favor of an entry level

The looks of the bike are almost even the features of the bike are zilch.

If one desires a Hero 100 cc bike then why not go for a Hero Splendor Plus or Hero Passion Plus which has at an Executive look and some features ( at least a fuel ).

Above all having ridden the engine on a stylish bike Hero Honda Sleek, it a bit awkward to ride the same on a CD Dawn ( you know……… memories more than mosquitoes. ).

As above, the technical specs are the same as the Hero Honda since this bike was to replace the Hero Honda so nothing much to discuss here.

Ride Experience

The ride experience of this till date as gone as per the Honda legacy, i.e. comfortable and hassle free ( there’s nothing much in bike which can give you any of hassle ). The gear shift is as if you are operating some kind of a to shift gears, it’s smooth. The power delivery and are also quite smooth. The though can go beyond 60 kmph but exerting a lot of effort beyond 60 and vibrating at around 60.

With the of a fuel gauge, calculating the of fuel in the tank is completely math for you. The fuel that the bike offers suite the pocket of your dynasty.

If you are looking for a bike has a CD 100 SL class engine fitted a tube chassis, with a gear box, fuel indicators, head lamp and a screwed on to the frame, the CD Dawn is the for you. All in all even though a good commuter’s bike, not an Executive Class bike.

Frankly speaking I didn’t liked the way Bajaj this bike ( with the Reshamiya back ground – just hate him ) and going the Bajaj legacy of under-performing 100 cc I had a level of prejudice about bike being a crap. But I rode Piyush’s Platina, I came to know how wrong I

Technical Specs

So, if we go by the above the CD Dawn beats the Bajaj on the performance and fuel efficiency and therefore the CD Dawn comes out as the

Ride Experience

Now if we talk the ride experience, it was an AHA moment for me as I expected a 100 cc Bajaj bike to be smooth. Even the gear ladies and gentlemen, was as smooth as the CD no hassles at all. The engine also was quite soothing and response was also crisp.

The was also good for 100cc and this was very well by the gear shift. At fourth ( even though I didn’t had opportunity to take this at fourth gear for a good ) the bike seemed to glide all by The front shockers and the rear ( with twin springs ) magical on the pot holes of Patna.

I was to take the bike up to 55 kmph and were no vibes at all at that which is again great. The indicators make ample to make you know that blinking ( which always Piyush to ask me from behind to them off. Sorry I’ve the self canceling on my P200, so I’m faulty of having the bad of letting the indicators on their own greatest thing which I was that neither Piyush any Kick Backs neither I any, which is a very menace in my brother’s CD Dawn.

Apart from the in performance and mileage, I guess the Platina is much better than Hero Honda CD But again the competition of Bajaj could come from the of Hero Honda Passion Hero Honda Splendor which were the Executive 100 cc bikes available at the time my decided for Hero Honda CD

If I go into the details, the post become as long as Arabian so I’ve summarized the specs of the bikes under, but the bottom is that the Indian commuter never had so many options as he has and especially from Hero which produces a complete of 100cc bikes.

So, from the comparison we see that in the Executive 100cc bikes, Bajaj has a clear edge over the from Hero Honda. Hero Honda recently the looks of the Passion Plus and it more desire worthy, but the remain the same and that’s technically a Bajaj Platina ahead.

Final Verdict

If we can blindly a Japanese RD product then why we give a chance to a product has been developed completely in because at least technically proving to provide better and reliability than the Japs.

So, my bike commuters, there’s no in giving Bajaj Products its bit of chance. But it’s already too The blind following of Hero has forced Bajaj Auto to off all its 100cc bikes and that I is a very unfortunate decision after having ridden the I think it was a dam good bike in its
