2013 Enduro Bike Husaberg TE300 vs FE350

The 2 … / 4 … Debate

Husaberg 300 – 350 review

After of the Motos, both our Husabergs in fine shape so we made go head to head in our own King of the competion

It is not often that I get a question that I don’t an answer for .Now, I didn’t say it be the correct answer, but I have on most everything. But in this I find myself asking the just like many of you are is better, the 300 two … or the 350 four am certainly not going to let the lack of a answer stop me from the query.

While we can make a of assumptions about both for specifics we are going to discuss the two that we have just testing. These are the 2013 FE350 and TE300. With identical chassis specs, are the perfect test platforms for the specific differences in handing and

Obviously these are not the only in the classes, but considering they are identical to the KTM 300xcw and 350xcw we are covering a big chunk of the most choices. It would be great to do a range of testing and real but it is just beyond our time and limitations. We are very fortunate KTM/Husaberg makes as many available to us as they do.

Over the years I have and raced at least three 300 models, a couple of Orange and a Gas Gas. We have tested different ones in the last KTM, Gas Gas and Husaberg. Since I have spent more riding 350 models than about anything else. In I tested and raced the new all new 350xcf.

In the 12 months we have had a 350xcw, and the current Husaberg FE350. not in time for this, we also the Sherco 300i soon, as early as next month.

Talk Power

So do you want a that feels fast, fast or one that gets point A to point B the quickest? My feels fast, the new 450xcf fast and the FE350 typically me to point B the quickest, particularly if the gets technical.

The 350 platform has an balance of power. It has an amazing to be “just right” most of the It is super easy to go fast on. the wheel or wheelie, it just the power to the ground and moves the forward.

It does not require throttle control, you can just park it. Often wide is the perfect position. The fuel reacts quickly and is not finicky.

line, the 350 just feels

So what about the 300? of all, the 300 always has more horsepower on tap. On the dyno it is 5-8 hp, depending on which 350 model you use for But how much of time can you use that power?

No doubt there are times power comes in handy, for starts, deep sand and

But for most 300 riders, I doubt are holding the throttle to the stop much. On the flip side, same power can be a real at times. The 300 will wear you out if you just try to ride it too aggressively.

It a delicate hand ( lots of to go fast in technical conditions. The 350 in conditions where traction is The 300 is better for quick reactions, blipping the throttle to get the front in the air instantly.

Paul Krause our FE350 in the King of the Motos, he second in the expert class. He races a KTM 300xc. I talked him about some of the differences in the two bikes in technical desert

Paul says that he with the 300 on big hill climbs, the breaks lose too easy.  He me 350 was great for KoM because he had to stop and on some very steep and the 350 would just chug its way up spinning.

This mirrors of my own experiences. In fact I remember a big climb in a 2011 race, told me  about getting behind a slow rider and he had to the rest of the way up on his 450sxf. I fell on the hill, in nearly the exact and was able to restart with the

So how do I account for the fact that all the top extreme riders use 300’s? I most of it on their superhuman Obviously, in the correct hands a 300 can do all of amazing things.

It is probably the better motor. The 350 is just for most of us with inferior to use.

It’s All About The

On paper, the big advantage of the 300 is the 10lbs weight it is carrying around. If you much of your riding lifting your bike and around obstacles, you are going to that. When the need to quickly raise the front the two … is tops. Like 4 strokes, the 350 tends to push its way things instead of over But with a little extra and momentum, it typically feels in doing so than 300.

The 350 feel heavier than the but it is still very light compared to other thumpers.

In world riding situations the is murky. The 350 has an amazing feel is hard to quantify. The front is planted to the ground and gives traction and feedback.

Everything just a little slower and consistency. The rider quickly a very good sense of how the will react in nearly any

It is also very hard to the chassis. With a great of weight and inertia, the 350 has a distinct to self-correct. On more than one I have hit something wrong and had the end kick completely sideways, beyond what I typically the point of no return.

But holding the wide open in a panic the bike lands, points forward and keeps going.

In tighter trails will the 300, once the terrain just a little the 350 comes its own. The 300 always feels it is dancing around just a bit and your attention to stay on the line. Again, the most riders can take advantage of the more powerful 300.

For else the 350 is easier to handle.

Top of the

Weight – 300 gets the nod for overall

Peak Power – 300 again is in pure power

Real Power – by a narrow margin the 350 has usable power

Handling – is a split decision, 300 best in the tight stuff, but the 350 is  tops in a variety of conditions

Fuel – 350 kills it with up to 50mpg on model and riding. This gives it the best range fuel stops.

Initial – 300 will save you $900 for the xcw model

Long Term Cost – call, the 350 will be more to rebuild, but may go longer on a top end. added fuel consumption and costs, expense of 300 adds up

Maintenance Intervals – Neither needs much attention, but 300 nod for not having any valves. Both are on consumables like tires, and sprockets.

Dual Sport Use – 350 make best all-around with or without a plate

Use –in sxf or xcf configurations, 350 is the best for the track

– they all have them

Choices – there are more 350 for everything from track to sport use

In Conclusion

Taking in the big we are talking about very differences. Testing the TE300 and together, I found myself happy on either. Simply an existing preference for either a two or four … is enough to a decision on.

These bikes are close to each other.

I you can see that I am leaning towards the I am always amazed at the versatility of the They are not the outright fastest but I find myself going because the power and handing are so inspiring.

I feel very in control and will push and the bike harder for it.

Track desert racing, Baja I am happy to do it all on one bike; the 350exc. I out the KTM model simply because it has the plate also. I love people while sporting a and brake light. I have a bit in the faster races, but I don’t those kinds of courses

I really excel on the technical courses and the 350 is perfect for that.

So you have my take on the 300/350 It is not definitive; there is no clear If you love riding two strokes, you are not missing too much in not having a 350 and versa. If you are on the fence about the chances are you will like it.

time I see an experienced racer one, they come very impressed and somewhat by the shear potential of the small bike.
