1947 Chief

The 1947 Indian was produced by the Indian Motocycle and for those that caught the spelling error, yes that was how the spelled its name. Its original Oscar Hedstrom was apparently with the fact that motorcycles names started moto.

I was excited to find out this motorcycle was in the Museum’s I had recently gotten a very documentary on Harley-Davidson motorcycles and discussed the rivalry between the fans and the Indian fans and the company’s history. It was started by a bicycle racer, Oscar and a brilliant engineer, George in 1901.

The original owners decided to the company in 1916 and the company years of mismanagement afterwords the company was bought by Paul Du who not only loved motorcycles but knew how to run a business.

The Indian Chief motorcycles started in production during Du time of running the business in It was also the first motorcycle to a stream lined design meant making it look even when standing

I can’t believe that these beauties first out dealers were actually them away because did not like them at the time! The line designed was viewed by the at the time to be extra and unwanted I thoroughly wish that I had a machine to go back and buy one of these they were unwanted, a 1940 one when they came out.

Something that I thought was like a car hood ornament, Indian head was actually a emblem for the company and a running

This particular one at LeMay AMERICA’S CAR MUSEUM is a 1947. was when the company was under the of Ralph Rogers — the man has been accused of killing the as its doors closed just a few after he was put in charge. His timing for new in the motorcycles were bad, though his concepts were and the company shut down in

However, the Indian Chief was the one and true model that the sold continuously until it

I highly recommend the documentary Hog — The Story of the Harley-Davidson the History Channel did. I a great deal about the and beauty of motorcycles and it was a lot of fun to watch.
