The twin-cylinder model and the partecipation to the 24h of Le

I dedicated a page to this motorcycle factory, almost in Europe, because it was one of the few Eastern factories that tried to enough modern motorcycles, at the level of the Western bikes. the Pannonia motorcycles also in very hard competitions, with good results.

The attitude of the Pannonia is also by the pic above, with a beautiful in short skirt. very in comparison with the sad Communist For more pics, i suggest the da and (part of the on this page is taken these sites).

The beginnings

The Pannonia were produced with the Csepel (from the name of the homonym island where the factory was The Csepel were classic bikes, with a non revolutionary but well builted and finished. In the second and third pics a 125 cc. model. a 250 cc.model. and a 350 cc. prototype final shaft drive. All bikes were realized the ’50s.

In the fourth pic, the R-73 with big-diameter and motorcycle-type engine (placed the central tunnel).

Indeed, the Pannonia model were from the Csepel 250 single-cylinder. In the and second pic above, the T1 and the TLB 250 (the TLB was to our Aermacchi Chimera, with a that covers partially the and the rear wheel), both since the mid-’50s.

The engine, modern for that was a single-cylinder with 14 hp, primary with gears (when the old for the primary drive were very diffused), and the singular of the crankshaft rotating in the direction to the usual sense. In the third a following version, the T5 of the ’60s, a quite pleasant look.

these bikes, also cross/enduro versions were (first and second pics, destined to the export, and with an boosted to 20 hp. These bikes even exported in the USA, and also in some international (third pic). In the 1951, the realized also a very prototype: the RB 250 (fourth pic), a two-… flat-twin engine, and shaft drive: the shape of and frame is very original!

The twin-cylinder models and the partecipation to the 24h of Le

Since the mid-’60s, a new generation of 250 cc. engines was launched, inspired to the Adler motorcycles. The power was of 19 hp for the versions (Pannonia P-10, pic above), and of 23 hp for the later models ( P-20 and P-21, second and pics, produced between the and the 1975).

The later versions were to the Yamaha YDS, but the performances inferior (although it’s to say that the Pannonia were for a daily use, without intentions). Anyway, in comparison the Russian Izh Jupiter (also to the Adler), the Pannonia were more modern, finished and with a 5-speed gearbox (4 on the and a big front brake (mounted on the versions). Moreover, you can see, on the the side bags and the turn integrated in the handlebar. a sort of BMW from the East!

The P annonia was one of the few factories that competed the Eastern brands on the international In the 1956, partecipating at the first 24h of Le (the famous Bol d’Or), the 250 single-cylinder obtained an excellent place, and other good in the following editions till the ahead of more powerful

In the 1972-73, the Pannonia was back to the Bol with a P-20 twin-cylinder some pic of racing and endurance of the P-20: see the big tank and the expansion of the endurance exemplar in the second equipped with Mikuni 30 hp, 170 km/h. The best of the Pannonia this time, took the 23є but don’t forget that it was the age of and Laverda! Anyway, the main was to show the reliability of the motorcycles, in a hard race as the Bol d’Or, the Hungarian two-… bike an honorable resistance.
