Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum Liquidation

The Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum is contracting with RM Auctions to liquidate its inventory, with just under 200 Microcars to be auctioned off without reserve over two days. Along with the car collection, the museum is also auctioning memorabilia such as neon and tin signs, model cars, pedal cars, and vintage vending machines. The museum itself in Madison, Georgia will serve as the auction location on February 15th and 16th, with a preview day on Valentine’s Day.

Each listing is detailed and photographed here at the event website. Below, we have included some of our favorites, what are yours?

Lot 248, the 1958 Zündapp Janus, stands out as strange, even among a field of curiosities at auction. Like its namesake, the Janus appears to face in both directions at once. Its bench seats face both forwards and back, and fold to become a bed. The motor is located underneath, in the center of the car. Whoever buys this would do well to snag the plethora of Zündapp memorabilia also for auction.

This Janus will be offered on February 15th, estimated to sell for $30-40k.

Lot 545, this 1953 Champion 400H, would be a great car to show up to a vintage German meet with, looking for all the world like either a shrunken Porsche or a scaled-up pedal car. Great details abound, like the semicircular windows which rotate into the doors. Power comes by the way of a 400cc 2-stroke twin.

Auction is set for February 16th, estimated at $40-50k.

Lot 249, the 1956 BMW Isetta Cabrio, is our favorite of the Isetta family, and also among the rarest with only about 50 produced. With large vent windows up front, vents in the door, and a fabric top in the rear, this example would make for a great open-air motoring experience. The light green paint coupled with green plaid upholstery and light yellow wheels completes the tropical theme.

Auction estimate is $45-55k.

Lot 603, this 1958 F.M.R. Tg 500 is the cream of the Kabinenroller crop. The “Tiger” is powered by a 494 cc two-stroke twin mated to a four-speed gearbox with reverse, and sits on four wheels rather than three. With a top speed of 78 mph, we’re glad the engineers saw fit to upgrade the suspension and brakes as well.

It is estimated to sell at  auction for $125-150k, on February 16th. There are many cars at auction here that merit a feature in and of themselves, and the breadth of the catalogue is impressive to say the least. We’re curious to hear any stories readers may have of their experiences with the museum, and their own microcar favorites.
