ACE and SouthBay Moto joined late in 2002. South Bay build engines to support Ace in desert series, MX racing and TT for the season. SouthBay Moto is about performance and increasing the of their high output

Dustin Lundy along his father Chuck and engine Wade Wilcox were to send us the first of many to power the ACE Racing Cannondale 440s.

The Review I am compling is of 440 engine, it is a true 440 displacement, w/ a compression piston and major work. Re-positioned injector are the only thing that away the fact that engine is far from stock. on my conversations w/ the guys at Southbay, are many changes made to increase reliablility across the better oiling capabilites and tricks that are deemed secretive, will make all engines powerful and running for a TIME.

The Large engine box on a Tuesday morning, I couldnt it fast enough. To completely I expected little, because I had and rode other awesome mods that had left me and only dreaming of more. engine would be THE EXCEPTION.

The radical change was easy to The runner or throat on the front of the head had been modifed to the injectors at a different angle stock. The work was very and except for a slight color the untrained eye would probally not I popped the injectors in just to get a at how this was going to work.

The injectors now were aimed at the intake valves and not at the back of the as they are in stock form, only made sense it would work better, but we feel this change My answers were only a of hours away.

I fought the to hurry, this was Shaun’s Bike for the Adelanto Grand and no longer his practice and MX bike, So I my time making sure was 100% perfect. The injectors now in a different location, more and straight, they are also closer to each other. The helmets can be used, but I had to trim the the connects them by half previous length.

Now with the and their helmets installed, lines hooked up and routed it was time to install the radiator, posed the second and final that had to be accomplished with Bays Hot Rod engine. There is no proper clearance between the Rad and for the stock mounting set-up. is only a blessing because is more than ample to tilt the rad forward and provide the needed. The modifications I did were simple and for the most part I was to use stock C’Dale parts. see final paragraph for complete and parts)

Moving the radiator forward good sense in my mind, in the hot air coming from out of the backside of the now has more room to cool and by the already hot engine. I was pleased how well it turned out.

Break-in. (Can we it yet?)

I started the engine and it for the first time, it had a different even at idle, which arroused my curiouslty more. The of the new engine was very deep and rough, it actually put me in mind of a 350 small block with 3 as it comes to life. I almost the the FMF silencer was on it’s last leg and need repacked. It did not, it sounded that good the higher compression.

After leaving it idle to operating temperature and a good to cool down, I fired it this time reving it to 1/2 throttle every couple It revved so quick, and was so crisp, you only smile while to the Titanium valve train go to I listened as the fan came on at 80C and then itself down to 70C and as the fan shut-off.

Every gear seemed to my speed and I could only that this was the fastest I have ever been on. The is smooth yet it pulls harder my words can desribe. It truly like speed mapping on and twice the grunt that was from the factory.

In the near future, we will be this quad on a dyno, to run numbers and check AFRs with testing some modifications that we have at ACE. We are hoping very that FMF will be helping us out some ideas we have in the dept. And I am waiting patiently to back from them.
