1968 Norton Atlas

on June 16, 2012 by Brian

looking for Classic Motorcycles, you two choices on fit and finish. These a collector are not interested in the bike has had thousands of dollars, and hundreds of put into making a Classic look like it just off the factory floor. These collectors are looking for originality, and 1968 Norton Atlas has but not in a really bad way.

From the

For Sale is this 1968 Atlas. Bought from owner, bike is very and not restored. The bike sat for many and needed a lot of clean up and has had the following to it: New rings, guides and gaskets.

New clutches and steels. New rear chain, battery, and speedo Carbs rebuilt, new fuel and oil New Dunlop K 70 tires and new tubes.  The is in good running order and I the mileage is original.

The speedometer when I first got the bike but has quit working. I have put fifty or so miles on it since I got it The original owner replaced the with Dunstall mufflers are a bit pitted but still sound

The rear fender has the classic in it that apparently are common to models. Rear fender are also damaged by a homemade bar the original owner put on it. Paint is and is pitted.

I took a lot of pictures to try to the overall condition of the bike.

The may have been conscious of or was just getting small right so that they ride it. The parts replaced be considered perishables and are easily new. I have heard from the good old days a person would send a address, stamped envelope to company in a far off land, then to wait weeks just to get a order catalogue to start for parts.

Now we have the Internet, a wonderful for motorcycle revival.

The Atlas was one of a of Norton’s that grew humble beginnings (500cc into large vibrating 55 hp at 6500rpm could rattle you to a that you could not focus eyes. But the twin would up to 113mph.

Maybe not with the bars that come on Norton, but then the late  and early 1970’s were a of Easy Rider comfort.

bike looks like it was in a relatively constant temperature, as the is not pitted. There are areas will need addressing, but are likely the same areas needed addressing before the was put away. With the new rings, gaskets and tires, you will be able to start this up and enjoy it for years to come.

But I guess with its Featherbed there will be a buyer out looking at this 1968 Atlas for its potential, and not just as it is. BB

I not had this conversation before, but I bet vintage motorcycle enthusiast at an old bike and think, “I bet Jay Leno has one of And since I have been to his Big Dog web site, and spent time at the videos of Jay and his Motorcycles, I know he does have a John Norton like this JPS offered up on eBay now .

From the seller

Motorcycle has covered only miles since Phil rebuilt engine and gearbox. mirrors, factory rearsets. first kick.

An eye-catching low production, very rare to one in such outstanding condition. I owned and ridden this JPN 1979. Currently fitted Dunlop K81 TT100 tires and with clear title.

I if you have been researching or own one, some of the names the seller drop mean to you then me. But what this tells me is that the sell has a lot of money, and time, sending and parts of the bike to competent to put them right. (I could some BMW names as easily.)

Based on the Commando line Norton the JPS was a celebration of the Sponsorship of the company in Norton’s success on the track. The Norton on the track was one of the to use a Monocoque frame, but the street is all fiberglass. In fact because of there is a steel gas tank all that pretty white

The other thing under all glass is a 829cc Norton engine which will 60hp at 6200rpm fed by a pair of Amals. Don’t forget is a push-rod engine originally by Bert Hopwell in the 1940’s. it might look Japanese its full fairing and Dual inspired headlights, underneath it is a British Twin.

But that is not a bad BB

1973 Norton Commando Roadster for Sale

Posted on May 9, by tad

The Norton Commando is truly motorcycle, the dream of countless boys”, now grown to middle-aged Rarer and a little more than Triumphs of the same its forward-canted cylinders and fastback dripped with class and the of speed.

This one appears restored:

1973 Norton Combat Roadster

Prior to Nortons sported the motor in the Tom Waits’ song Hang on St “there’s a 750 Norton bustin’ January’s door…”  But 1973 saw the of the 850 [actually 828cc] version of the pre-unit twin.  The bump in allowed similar power less stressed engine a good thing, considering the of the earlier 750 Combat motors…

With a 10:1 compression and 65hp, the Combat was introduced as the version of the Commando, and the name unintentionally apt, with the motors regularly grenading main bearings and broken were shockingly common.  widely-publicised  disaster was another the in the coffin for Norton’s reputation and the continued to spiral into with the last machines off the line in 1977.

The 850’s introduced in the Spring of 1973 if the badging on the side-panel is correct, Commando is a 750 produced earlier in the The seller is a fan of old British motorcycles, but is this on behalf of his brother’s

This is a spectacular Commando was given a complete, ground-up restoration by my late brother, and I am it on behalf of his wife.

The was completed in 2008/09 and is correct to all with the exception of the alloy alloy wheels and stainless and stainless rear mudguard, braided stainless brake There are many new, parts.

I am a Velocette guy, but I have ever ridden is as responsive and sure as this The handling is just as superb as the I’d love to have it for myself but the 7 I already own make that

Technical details are spare, but the appears happy to answer any questions, and he’s posted of what appears to be a very bike.  From the work gone into the restoration, I’d the motor’s been built to be far durable than the original, and the Buy It Now he mentions in the listing seems fair.

on April 6, 2012 by Brian

The ES2 is a very unique machine in it was offered for sale through decades. Now, that is not to say the ES2 first offered in 1927 is to look the same as the last one in There where major in every part of the motorcycle one, and that one is the heart of the The 500cc OHV, push-rod

This 1961 Norton ES2 is a example of the final incarnation, and may even better then it was sold new.

In 1927 the OHV engine was cradled in a frame with girder forks. Brakes were and single sided. 37 years the OHV engine was cradled in a Slimline frame.

The fact that the ES2 the Featherbed frame was a factor in the of complete ES2. When the became the end all of custom bikes, may ES2 sacrificed.

More from the seller

the engine has been rebuilt a new Alpha big end bearing, new rings and The head was done by ES2 specialist Pemberton in the UK with new guides, and seats. The gearbox has had all the bearings and replaced.

New cables throughout. New shoes, new chain, new tires and Hagon shocks, folding lever, etc, etc. The is longer than I care to

The reason that the ES2 was around so was because it is what it is. A 500cc horse that will get you you need to go; not at any great speed, but The seller made this a focus.

The culmination of the effort was the ES2 on the 2011 Moto Melee  (900 in 3 days). The bike distinguished with first rate and reliability. No breakdowns encountered or repairs needed, she just chugging along.
