The BOCCARDO Motorcycle

Fact’s concerning the Diesel Motorcycle

In 1977/78 the Department of Industry announced the BFG consortium had won its latest and rather construction competition.

From the it had been revolutionary in its thinking and — to put a car engine into a frame.

Louis Boccardo, Favario and Thierry Grange said BFG) were the prize and set about producing of 450 machines all of which contained powered GS Citroen engines.

was made of these machines and even went into with the French Police

But there were problems and BFG to make bikes. Boccardo decided to build another in the same spirit and this was as the MF. Using the engines of Citroen LN he a small number of bikes but venture also failed.

he embarked on the manufacture of a small of motorcycles using AX Citroen Four machines were but his greatest aim was to make Diesel so he fabricated a frame and inserted the Peugeot engine from the AX

This prototype motorcycle was 0. The picture below was taken by at the factory where it was being

Many thanks to Yves owner of the pictured Diesel motorcycle, for telling me the history of amazing machine.

The Diesel owned by Yves Claquin.

And is the motorcycle complete with

(If anyone associated with BFG including Louis Boccardo, like to contact me please do. if you read this why not come to the Diesel bike rally? If I anyone wearing a turned up and dark sunglasses I’ll it’s you 😉 Anyway, I’m you would find many minded people there and it be good to see you.

Engmann M.Z. Diesel

Engmann seem to have and offered several Diesel down the years, the MZ framed being the most prominant. here and here to see different of a magazine advert (german offering both Ruggerini and Robin 412cc bikes. that Engmann has tilted the engine in an effort to reduce Niether of these machines are being made, Engmann died some time

The D3 means the bike requires 3 of Diesel to travel 100 km.

An MZ fitted Fuji Robin engine. D2 the bike requires 3 litres of per 100km.

An MZ ETZ301 fitted 850cc Ruggerini MD 191 engine and Drive. Right side may not have Variomatic.

The MZ Robin 412cc single cylinder with variomatic transmission is by William Hogervorst. With an engine 9.5 BHP Max speed is 55Mph. Only ten ever converted by Robin and that I know very except that Robin fitted thier engine the Royal Enfield. I’m some people do not like the asspect of the machine, it being troublesome.

MZ Sidecar

This machine appears, at first to be some kind of one off. investigation uncovers that it was by one Mr Fritzsche from Zwickau, Germany. He has a small motorbike and also tried to produce a of Diesel-MZ-conversion, but hasn’t found an yet. Another sad story of with foresight but no backers. it’s an MZ, this time a side car attached, but I’m not sure as to the engine.

I am told Mr still builds customized MZs.Way to go.

MZ Diesel with Low orders mean this never got off the ground.

Reinhards 850cc Ruggerini

Reinhard tells me he first this engine on a Variomatic and from then on decided to fit it to an MZ He was not taken with the Variomatic though and did not incorporate this. bike is currently undergoing repairs after an oil pipe causing a piston seizure. originally meant to make a series of these bikes to

It is in this section because he is hard at work on a smaller which uses mainly instead of chains.

Paul ambition was to produce 200 of these a year but it is doubtful this was ever met. However, 100 bikes were produced and at the rather expensive price then of -4500, the engine -1500 of that. Production after the legendary diesel Ernie Dorsett approached the after first producing 5 G3 Matchless machines.

Problems the Matchless frames led all concerned to instead to the Royal Enfield. the error on the title photograph)Bikes to roll off the production line in

The D R stands for Dorsett Robin

Ever heard of the Rokon? they’re quite big Stateside. through their page I that some were with diesel engines at one Check out their homepage for info http://www.geocities.com/rokonworld/

A big thanks to who sends me this picture of a Diesel Rokon. He tells me machines are used by a certain company in Mexico. Bob from World tells me only 20 of these machines were made. I’ve put it in this because it was actually converted the petrol, all be it by Rokon themselves. (perhaps mistakenly) used the 1B20 engine and understandably not overly impressed by its power

Other’s have used the 40 engines.

An American made Diesel motorcycle.

Note: With the so interested in Diesel powered and given that the American and Armies have used machines at various times one can speculate as to why they never up owning any Diesel versions of the I suspect the Rokons overall meant it was never really for the kind of things the army use for, namely dispatch, and work.

The Centaurus 850cc Motorcycle

The latest on this is that it is no longer produced it alledgedly had some problems frames breaking. Lets they overcome this.
