Enertia: Can Brammo move with this name?

out! There’s a new electric in town. It’s the Enertia . Brammo. Yes, like the inertia . but with an E, which The Inspector supposes stands for . So, electric + inertia .

Inertia . of an unusual word choice for a don’t you think? Inertia, as we all from physics class, is the of a physical object to stay at or, if it’s in motion, to maintain and velocity until it’s upon by an external force. If you a motorcycle in motion, you can think of as a synonym for momentum . this will keep on going–just try to it!

That seems to be what is going for. On the Enertia they use the slogan “Enertia is for Change”.

The Name Inspector is to wager, however, that is not the first idea that pop into most people’s They’ll think of the word as it’s used in the everyday where it means, as the Merriam-Webster dictionary puts it, “indisposition to exertion, or change: INERTNESS”.

Inertness. Stillness. Just there. Not going anywhere. No or motivation. Lying on the couch, not what you’re supposed to be

It’s actually hard to of another name that so communicates exactly the wrong Let’s face it, people are to be skeptical about an electric They’re going to be concerned it just won’t have oomph . Putting the word in their minds isn’t to help with that.

The Name Inspector loves quote from an otherwise positive review of the Enertia. “I think of a more stupid for a motorbike. I mean my bike get over 35mph but because it is the Ruckus I always feel exciting might happen.”

the name Enertia is part of a counterintuitive marketing concept. is the motorcycle for people who don’t like motorcycles! Or any form of or movement, really.

Don’t it’s electric . It only 51 mph, for Pete’s sake–just hop on! No, get on carefully, holding on tight to the first make sure helmet straps are properly Now are you ready for the ride of your No? Good–don’t get too excited.

This is really just a without the pedals–a noped . OK, carefully, and you’ll get there if your battery doesn’t run

There. The Name Inspector had to get that sarcastic little out of his system. But it may not be far from the truth. In a interview for the Portland Tribune.

design director Brian said the Enertia “was to appeal to somebody like me who has loved motorcycles but perhaps was too to go out and buy one”. He also said it was to be “really inviting to sit on”. a cool, zippy armchair!

Right on. Those with a refined editorial cynicism also wonder, if only whether the company doesn’t know how to spell “inertia,”

Maybe the en- prefix in Enertia is to invoke (envoke?) “energy,” perhaps already influenced by the connotation of inertness, I was just as to read into it the idea of

But then, that might be the (entention?), as you say: it’s the opposite of excitement, right?
