Italjet Dragster D125LC

Advantages: fantastic looking, fast (for a scoot), fun fun fun (burnouts galore)

Disadvantages: brakes (no stopies 🙁 ), unpractical (for a scoot), expensive (for a scoot)

As a coleauge of mine once said and it really sums up the dragster 125. I’ve had my drag now for just over a month and all i can say is YEH! This baby has happlily transported me to work again and again shooting through trafic and Ive found myself riding for miles and miles for no reason or going to the local shop via the next town.

Put simply this bike is fantastic to ride and makes you feel good every second your on it and you also has a reason (other than fun) for owning it!

Ok lets get one thing out of the way, its a scooter and its a 125cc scooter but just look at it! go on click the picture and have a good look. Now have a look around and find me anything other than another dragster and mabe a ducati monster (same designer) that looks anything like it. This isent the ususal all over plastic pootle along moped most other scoots are, and you can really tell when your riding.

Never have i had so many looks from pedestrians and other drivers, just park it up sit down somewhere and watch all the people who walk past heads turning as the walkpast trying to make their minds up as to what it is. Its a scooter, but it looks like a bike, but not, what? its not a scooter its not a bike its a dragster!

But looks arn’t every thing and the dragster has it where it counts, it uses the same engine as the gilera runner sp 125 and by all acounts its bullet proof, if something goes wrong it wont be the engine. Unfortunateley being a 125, and a automatic 125 at that, its not going to break any land speed records (75 tops), but it accelerates well and will beat anything on 4 wheels from the lights (barr mabe a f1).

Watching the speedo needle shoot through the speeds can me mesmorising and your certainly going to have to watch for the fuzz round town. Extra power is easily attainable due to the large number of tuning parts around and 80-90mph ( 20bhp) is certainly not unatainable.

Unfortunateley the dragster is not perfect the frame is very strong

and the construction solid but some less important areas of the drag feel a little italian. Some plastic parts break easily and can warp with the heat. The coolant tank is well known for cracking (cheap to replace tho) and the mirrors have a habit of moving and working lose (10 secs with a spanner and its sorted again) and the standard number plate bracket is horible (mines been changed for a shorter one).

The dragster also has some more serious flaws such as the very few concessions to practicality, small underseat compartment (so you can forget about getting your lid under there) and lack of a bag hook. The supention may be a little hard for some and can feel unusual at first (no suspention dive under braking and cornering) and the plastic around the headlight often cracks a little after very heavy jolts like big pot holes and (badly landed) wheelies. The brakes are ok but as bikes go the front can be craptacular at high speed (which is what you’ll want to be doing)

None of the problems are crippling and the good areas of the drags construction strongly outweigh the bad ones in my opinion. If you like to ride for fun as well getting to work then this is the bike for you. I’d certainly look at the gilera runner sp 125 if you are concidering the drag its got the same engine and is a little more practical but the drag handles better and has much more in your face looks.

I recomend you check the owners club for further information.
