Aermacchi Harley Davidson Ala Verde 250 Giro Ready ! Vehicle Description

This is a 1967 Aermacchi Harley Davidson Ala Verde ( Green Wing ) 250. This particular example came to the U.S. via the Netherlands. Very rare model never imported into the US this was the factory café version of the US only Sprint model.

I can’t say how many of these are in this country but safe to say just a handfull have been imported by collectors.

What makes this bike even more valuable is the impossible to find factory made CRTT race tank, different from the normal Ala Verde tank in several ways. The cap is in a deeper pocket making the top completely flush and the underside has a large pocket for a racing carburetor with straight intake. Only 100 of these steel tanks were made and this one has been recently epoxy sealed against corrosive alcohol in today’s gasoline.

Too many new parts to list. The motor is completely rebuilt and everything works as new. The front brake is the later double leading shoe type. This provides disc like stopping power with very little effort at the lever.I will include the original in sale. The hub remains the same so going back to the single leading shoe is easy.

Also this bike has a rare quick change rear sprocket enabling a ratio change without disassembling hub. Original new old stock sprockets are very available in various ratios if a change to stock is desired. Most parts for the Ala Verde are interchangeable with the US Sprint model.

Paint is a few years old and there are a few retouched chips here and there but overall really nice eye candy. The rear trailing edge of the front fender has a small and not really noticeable crack and tapped out ding (clipped by a falling bike on soft ground parked to close to me!) and the left case cover has an old gouge it came with that I never got around to repairing. Easy fix if desired requiring a couple of weld fills, dressing and a bead blasting.

The frequently missing rare Veglia speedo is original to the bike and in excellent condition with some loss of plating on bezal. Some typical pitting on the inside of the battery box since painted over and not visable on the exterior

This bike was ridden reliably in Europe and is not a trailer queen or living room decoration despite it’s near mint condition. Unlike many very pretty vintage Italian motos offered for sale on ebay that have never been started by the seller and offered with no guarentee of running this bike is ready to ride and enjoy. This afternoon I started it up on one kick which it will do hot or cold, and ran it around the beach parking lot the video of which can be seen at this Youtube link.

A bit grainy and a bit of wind noise but does illustrate it’s operation. The photos show the rest.

We would not hesitate to run a Giro event with this great bike. It is more comfortable then my Ducati Diana though not as fast and runs with very little vibration. Motor has great torque and pulls very hard in the upper rev range. It’s a hard bike to park, a really seductive little scoot with incredible handling and brakes.Gearbox and clutch work superbly. Controls are light and cables fresh.

Battery is new and tires are very nice vintage Pirellis. I think these tires are fine for cruising but spirited cornering might require fresh rubber. We have a low milage Benelli Baracuda 250, nice Giro bike indeed but the Ala Verde will leave it for dead in all departments.

The pictures are straight out of the camera and not photo-shopped. The reason for selling is that we own two and it’s time to sell one. This is the better of the two.

Bike has European Targa (registration) and can be registered here with no problem.

Speed and handling of this beautiful machine are impressive as is the Aermacchi racing history both past and present in the vintage class. It will draw the biggest crowd at any Sunday morning parking lot venue guaranteed! The Harley guys go nuts as few even know of it’s existence.
