Motus MST Tourer Public at Daytona

The Alabama-based Mous will debut its direct-injected sport-touring concepts to the public at Bike Week.

American Motus Motorcycles has chosen Bike Week for the public of its V-Four-powered sport-touring prototypes. The Alabama-based company revealed its MST earlier this month at the New Michigan headquarters of its engineering Pratt Miller.

The KMV4 powerplant anchors the MST and represents the first American-built motorcycle. Developed with a Michigan-based firm renowned for its V-8 development, the KMV4 lops the American V-8 in half. The KMV4 features gasoline direct (GDI), which as the name injects fuel directly the combustion chamber, instead of the intake ports.

The direct injection technology more efficiency than fuel injection systems, Motus citing up to 10% more and as much as 25% less emissions.

The engine powering the Motus MST its internal architecture from

V-8 musclecars, divided by two. It features direct injection

The longitudinal 90-degree V-Four on the prototype is liquid-cooled and displaces via 86.5mm bore and 70mm The valvetrain features two-valves per (44.5mm intake, 36.9mm moved via pushrods and a single cam. The Four revs up to redline with peak claims of 161 horsepower at 7800 rpm and 122 torque at 4500rpm.

A six-speed transmission divvies out the with a very un-sport-touring-like final drive.

Pratt designed the transmission, and gets for the chassis and bodywork too. An fully-adjustable 43mm fork care of suspension duties up with a fully-adjustable rear out back, the latter featuring a preload adjuster. The front are four-piston radial-mount calipers on dual 320mm rotors, a single rear rotor by two-piston caliper.

The Motus frame is an eye-catching steel design, as is the swingarm and engineers incorporated the V-Four the chassis as a stressed member. The claimed dry weight is estimated at 500 so add on another 35 pounds or so once off the six gallon tank.

A longitudinal powering a sport-tourer isn’t but the made in America stamp the Motus unique.

The Motus prototypes are targeted as models, with integrated from Givi another characteristic. The sport-touring credentials be put to the personal test by company Lee Conn and Brian Case, who ride the bikes themselves Michigan to their Daytona

Conn takes care of the end of the Alabama startup, with handling the design responsibilities. riding enthusiasts are already with Case’s work, as the of the Confederate Wraith. Notable cues on the Motus are the exposed fiber heads of the KMV4, as as the slight forward sweep of the headers before terminating the conventional looking right exhaust.

The conservative lines of the bodywork to appease the traditional ST demographic.

pitches its two prototypes, the MST and MST-R, as models with a production of late 2011. Noticeably from the initial specs are the MSRP.

In the meantime, more testing is underway. Again, it be personal as Conn and Case are a cross-country tour. Daytona is the beginning, with around 250 expected (hey, fellas, we got roads here in our Medford, headquarters. ).
