Voxan V1000 Scrambler test

Intro: LOVEABLE

The relaunch of activity at the Issoire factory means first and foremost bikes that are going to come onto the market and amongst them is the Scrambler.

The 1st models had hardly come off the assembly lines before the Voxan adventure was suspended. So there are Scramblers to be found on the roads today- and this is a chance for us to test this bike- which is atypical in its history but also in its very nature.

Esthetique: INIMITABLE

The Scrambler above all has an original- inimitable design- and whether or not you like its looks- the new standard bearer for the French company does have its very own personality. The first thing that you notice is the imposing exhaust on the right hand side- the colour and shape of the false tank and finally- of course- the presence of the double beam frame around which the engine and the cycle part. There is a clever mix of the modern with a touch of nostalgia with the big round headlight and the overall lines of the bike.

Note too- while we are at it- the well-designed radiator vents.

In short- this is a bike that doesn-t go unnoticed- either by the man in the street- or by technical enthusiasts.

Motorization: HONOUR RESPECTED


And things technical- there are lots- real ones- beautiful ones- useful and intelligent ones- just the way they like them at Voxan.

Honour where it-s due- and the real star of the French firm is the famous dual cylinder engine- open at 72-. With its 996 cc- it develops power of 85 and half horsepower at 7-500 revs and torque of 9.5 mkg at 6000 revs- all for an empty weight of 190 kilos.

So it has lots a bit of power- but the work on the cartography of the V2 has put the accent on gentle pick-ups and the presence of a lot of torque at mid-revs.

The Scrambler expresses itself best on winding roads.

The engine alone is a treat. Raging above 4-500 revs- it climbs valiantly with a flattering sonority up towards the breaker situated at 8-000 revs. You can make the most of its omnipresent torque and its pleasant gearbox to enjoy yourself with the feeling of being at the controls of bike something like a roadster.

In short- you soon get a taste for going up the revs with it and you find yourself gradually increasing the pace.

On the road: HALF-TRIAL- HALF-ROADSTER

And that-s where you become slightly disappointed- because although the cycle part shows no defects beforehand- it reveals its limits when you push it. Since there is no way of adjusting the fork- the bike tends to become disunited and it doesn-t take long to get the message that attacking is not its cup of tea.

The Scrambler is not a sports like the Multistrada with which everyone tends to compare it. It is designed to take out for a ride- to enjoy its torque- not that that will stop you leaning in hard from time to time- meeting the definition of the " Scrambler " concept.

Overall- the Scrambler is an easy bike to ride- and this is equally true in town. Its high saddle provides a good view over the traffic and the wide handlebars give it appreciable handling.

And that-s where you become slightly disappointed- because although the cycle part shows no defects beforehand- it reveals its limits when you push it. Since there is no way of adjusting the fork- the bike tends to become disunited and it doesn-t take long to get the message that attacking is not its cup of tea.

To sum up- we can say without any risk that the Scrambler 1000 is a bike full of character.

Animated by an intoxicating engine- the Voxan admits its limits without a complex while showing off its fun and enthusiastic character. Both trail in its overall behaviour and roadster in its motorisation- the Scrambler is a bike you soon become attached to. But at 11-000 Euros- the Scrambler is more for the enthusiast than your average rider- not that seems to cause the French company-s order book to suffer.
