Two Wheel Tuesday: Museu Pt. 4, The Ossas

This week, Spanish Motorcycle Month profiling Barcelona’s Museu with a look at some of the more notable Ossa

Manuel Giró founded in Barcelona in 1924 as a manufacturer of projectors. The company would not a motorcycle for 25 years, producing first bike in 1949. nearly all of their Spanish they concentrated on single-cylinder and built both lightweight models and a variety of off-road enduro and observed trials like the famous MAR (Mick Replica) shown above.

In the mid-20th century, Spaniards looking for practical transport, not Ossa first built roadsters typical of the period, as this solidly constructed 125 from

As the Spanish motorcycle industry Ossa began building machines and competing at the highest of motorsport. This 1968 disc-valve 250 roadracer was typical of innovative engineering. Unfortunately, it was on a similar to this one that Ossa rider Santiago Herrero … two years later at the Isle of Man TT race.

His tragic … prompted to completely withdraw from racing, but they continued to factory riders in most of off-road competition. Ossa was the manufacturer to sell a production bike with long progressive rear suspension, a linkage system they from motorcycle visionary Joe

This bike started out as a typical ’70s Ossa however it has been extensively for the distinctly European and slightly sport of moto-ball .

Ossa also continued street bikes, and this creation was among their innovations. I’ve shared the Urbe with Hooniverse previously. but I personally encountered one for the time at the museum, and I have to say it definitely works better in three dimensions than it in photos. I wouldn’t call it by any means, but it was at least a sincere to get back to Ossa’s roots as a of practical transportation, and most of its bodywork looks as it does for functional reasons.

Unfortunately, by the time the production came out in 1982, the days of the single and the Spanish motorcycle had both passed. Very few made and Ossa went in 1984.

This black is the initial prototype Urbe. The has several minor differences production models, and also has disc brake; production had a drum. As one would expect on a prototype, finish is understandably around the edges.

Note the design of the front it’s a one-piece cast hub and unit with a bolted-on rim. It’s a combination of and composite construction techniques never seen elsewhere. I know what the rationale is for it, but it is inventive.

An Ossa movie stands in the corner of the museum’s area, bearing testimony to the original product line.
