1:12 SCALE 1950 Vincent HRD Black Shadow have made a superb 1/12th die-cast metal scale model Vincent HRD 1000 Black Shadow Series C that is well worth collecting. Many others believes so too, which is why these models are always sold out!

The real bike was produced by the Vincent HRD Company Ltd in Stevenage, being named after its designer Philip C Vincent and his partner Howard R Davies. The Vincent was a very successful motorcycle that sold between 1928 and 1955.

The Black Shadow was perhaps the company’s most famous bike and was known as a high performance, very robust and very fast machine.

In fact the Vincent HRD 1000 Black Shadow was considered to be the fastest motorcycle in the world during the 1950’s. It was well in advance of anything the Japanese were producing at that time.

The motorcycle was fitted with a 1000cc overhead valve V twin engine which produce 55bhp at 5700 rpm. This was very powerful for the time this bike was retailed. The Vincent RHD Black Shadow had the ability to cruise at 100mph and could reach a maximum speed of 125mph with the throttle wide open.

Between the years of 1948 and 1955 when this bike was produced, a total of 1507 bikes were manufactured and they sold for £380. which was very expensive at the time. They were said to be the Rolls-Royce of bikes and not just for the build quality. but the price too!

The scale model is superb, every intricate part of the bike has been replicated, you can appreciate all the work that went into the real one. the plumbers nightmare as the bike was referred to is apparent with all the plumbing that went into the bike. The image below reflects this quite well!

Minichamps have captured all the detail and the engine is indeed a very complex looking piece of kit, even the name Vincent is replicated into the engine casing. The real bike must have been quite an eyeful and the model itself is quite a visual piece.

The model is very well made and is very fragile due to all the small parts that protrude from it, so it has to be handled with great care. it is not a childrens toy but a remarkable static display piece.

Every nut and bolt, every cable and all the electrical wiring is present on the model and it screams detail at you. the chain does not move, neither does the suspension work but are fixed. Its a static dispay model after all, so who cares? I could just mention here though that curiously, the rear fender (mudguard) does flip up and the rear stand does operate, also the bikes bi-pod stand works too!

Again, these models are so remarkable that you just want to jump on one and ride it away. I often wish I could hear these bikes start up and tick over like the real ones. Still. we cant have everything can we!
