I re-built the front forks and also replaced the fork I then replaced the steering bearings, threw in new disk front and back and bled the system replacing the brake Keeping in mind this is nearly 20 years old I changed the oil and then ran the bike looking at the window to see if the oil had changed color. If the oil a milky brown color is a sign that the water seal is worn.

Sure enough the oil showed of leakage so I had the oil pump rebuilt and replaced. This is a common with water cooled of this age and should be one of the first to check. I then had the KIPS valve system rebuilt. if you are buying a bike this old the valves are most likely not The bike will run without the valves, and unless you are familiar a KDX 200 you won’t know what to for or what power you are missing.

Typically the power valves you a much broader power particularly at lower revs. The will also chew fuel. Once rebuilt the valves give a noticeable to the bikes performance. My bike has an aftermarket Pro Circuit exhaust which improves horsepower the original unit.

Parts for these are getting harder to come buy and you may to do a bit of ringing around. Having that I have found all the I have needed so far. The CDI are very expensive new but can be found hand for a reasonable price. to be very careful when on the electrics on any bike with CDI as you can blow the unit up.

If you are going to test circuits or wires make sure you the CDI unit first.
