2000 Kawasaki Drifter Specifications

The liquid-cooled V2 engine at the heart of the Kawasaki Drifter VN 800 had a 805 cc displacement. Both of the cylinders were 3.5 inches in diameter and the pistons traveled 2.6 inches into these cylinders. Each cylinder had two valves. One camshaft operated from within the cylinder heads, directly above the combustion chamber. An electric starter system and a digital ignition with Kawasaki throttle responsive ignition control sparked the engine.

The engine generated 45 foot-pounds of torque at 5,500 rpm and 57 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. This output is applied to the wheels with a five-speed manual transmission system with chain final drive. The result is a top speed of 105.6 mph. The Drifter VN 1500’s engine had a displacement of 1,471 cc.

It also has a 4-inch bore, a 3.5-inch stroke and four valves per cylinder. The vehicle used a capacitive discharge ignition and a manual five-speed transmission with shaft final drive. The engine could achieve maximum 63.5 horsepower at 4,700 rpm and 83.3 foot-pounds of torque at 2,800 rpm.

The top speed was 113.1 mph.

Brakes and Suspension

A hydraulic disc brake on the front and an expanding hydraulic disc brake on the rear brought the Drifter VN 800 to a standstill. A hydraulic telescopic fork handled suspension duties on the front end. On the back, Uni-Trak single-shock suspension with seven-way adjustable preload added some extra muscle to the bike’s stopping power. This suspension system allowed for 5.9 inches of wheel travel at the front and 3.9 inches of travel at the rear.

The VN 1500 model used a cartridge front suspension with 5.9 inches of travel and a twin shock, swingarm rear suspension with 3.9 inches of travel. This model uses single disc brakes at the front and back.
