2014 SCORE San Felipe 250

The SCORE San Felipe 250 kicked off the SCORE season this weekend. With a 270+ course, which was mostly new for the San race, SCORE had racers to run a new course. But with this new in course came an unexpected in the weather and Friday’s storms SCORE officials to act quick and the race course in the 11th shortening it to 219 miles.

A bulldozer on the “summit” portion of the course be the primary cause to the change, a that most were ok but certainly had not planned for. In the SCORE did what they had to do to the race in tact.

The UTV class would see 14 machines up to take on the first of 3 SCORE races. The field had machines 5 different manufacturers including Yamaha, Can-Am, Polaris, and Cat. The reining 2013 Pro UTV champion, Matt Parks of X / Polaris would be arriving in San with a brand new RZR XP1000 Marc Burnett and Derek would be showing up to San Felipe in now dialed Can-Am Maverick’s.

The was set for yet another spectacular race of the border.

It would take under 6 hours for the winning UTV to the 219 mile course which drivers through fast free desert to cold and wet elevation mountains. First to the line would be Marc in his MB Motorsports factory Can-Am It would be more than a first place finish for

It was the first race finish he has had joining the UTV ranks, it would be the time a Can-Am UTV has won a Baja in San Felipe and it would be the first  a Can-Am UTV has won in a SCORE race they first started UTVs back in 2005/6. win was a huge accomplishment for Marc, his and his factory Can-Am sponsors. lot of bad luck in his rookie season year, but he never gave up on his or his team.

Instead they their cool, kept on and now have proven that are a team to be respected.

Finishing in 2nd, 30 minutes Burnett would be his Factory Murray Motorsports. Derek would be in Baja competing his brother Jason who is still from a severe hand he suffered during last King Og The Hammers race. The raced with Jason in spirit and also proved their new Can-Am Maverick Max is for the 2014 season. Murray is a team that no matter is thrown at them they to overcome.

Just when you they are out, they are in and they never can be counted out as it to putting together a championship In the end, Murray Motorsports be right there battling!

Finishing only 2 minutes the Murray’s on time was the reining Pro UTV Champion, Matt Parks in his new X Polaris RZR XP1000. Just a Baja race is an accomplishment, its 200 miles or 1000. But finishing on the is a huge accomplishment and one that knows will keep him in the conversation as they head the Baja 500 in June.

Baja is a not a sprint and Parks knows how to himself and his machines to always he is within striking distance of a win and a championship.

Seeing go 1-2 in the opening round of SCORE is a sign that Polaris the only OEM capable of producing and a championship. Grant it, its only 1 and Polaris has been extremely dominant over the few years. But its exciting to know the competition level is rising all competitors in multiple brand

We are looking forward to the biggest of UTV racing ever in Baja and we wait to see how things shake out the big point to point run to La Paz at the SCORE 1000!
