Me and My Connie: My First Overnighter

Not but I’m generally an over packer.

A few I joined my riding buddies on a 300 mile overnight trip to the California town of Cloverdale my rock and roll band playing. This was my first trip on MyConnie, and before the I was wondering about what I check on the bike, and how I should Generally, I’m an over packer, so I this will be a challenge.

the Concours Owners Group had some great resources suggested what to pack in of tools and spares.

The interesting for me was that since my band was the first night of my ride, it was for me to arrive on time, and unscathed. it’s not like our band’s is on par with a space shuttle but an ill-timed flat tire mean that I’d have to MyConnie on the roadside and ride on the of someone else’s bike to the Ugh! And then face back to the scene of the crime the day to deal with the problem.

Double-Ugh! This might those of fainter hearts to their cars to the performance, but not me. Our was going for broke. With a that I had less than 500 riding at the time, I just that “going for broke” mean…well…“ BROKE .”

We were overnight in a hotel, so I didn’t to carry camping gear. I was worried about something that I could fix on the road, but not if I have the tools, parts or the Reading all about common solder joints on the Concours block, or “weeping” petcocks, or interlock switch failures had me a tad

But I just needed to think thoughts and bank on good points to carry the day.

On the day of the trip, my brother-in-law, Rich, and I off on his “Bonnie” (2011 green Bonneville T100) and my “Connie” blue Kawasaki Concours) to up with the other two members of our at a Starbucks off of Interstate 80 in Hercules, CA. In the I opted to travel light and pack a couple of crescent a tire plug kit and electric air That’s all that could fit I put my band clothes and toiletries in the saddlebags.

We arrived a bit late to the Starbucks, to the consternation of Mr. Triumph Speed (Des) and Mr. BMW R1150RT (Jim), but a quick and justified chastising we were off.

Without this post a turn-by-turn I’ll just give you the

The Bikes

The Bonnie was a champ, a brief spurt over-the-ton on just to see if it could. The Speed is an awesome machine, especially in the And the Beemer is an extremely civilized, yet sport-tourer.

MyConnie performed exactly as I her to…flawlessly—plenty of power, very equally capable in the twisties and on the

The Concours 1000

It’s what it claims to be, a compromise that isn’t highly for one kind of riding. In fact, criticize the Concours for not doing any one extremely well. But the Connie’s value is that it does it It’s motorcycling’s “liberal degree.” And, it is a platform has not changed much since it was in 1986, with only one upgrade in 1994.

That is the Concours 1400 was introduced in which is a completely different That means that is a huge community of Connie whose base of knowledge of the and its idiosyncrasies provides new Connie with a wonderful support And, there are many manufacturers who produce upgrades and that are tailor-made for the Concours.

I don’t mean to go all fanboy on But for the bike I needed to get back motorcycling after 25 years MyConnie is the perfect blend of good and easy.

The Ride

All in we rode about 370 miles and a of 8 hours in the saddle. It was a great and really proved out MyConnie as been a great choice for my ride. Highlights of the ride Hwy 178 from Kelseyville to Hopland. What a ride.

Coming on Hwy 12 through the Napa wine couldn’t have been a end to the trip. We are so lucky to live in proximity to so many wonderful and roads. But, instead of more about them now, I think I’ll go the next ride!
