New to the forum. Question about 1500 vs 1600-

I am a newbie here and wondered if some of the Kawasaki veterans here could help me with some questions..

I had a Yamaha 650 Maxim 20 years ago, have not had a bike since, I am now 50.

I want another bike now that I am old and successful (ha, ha!).

I thought I wanted another Yamaha and test drove a Stratoliner (1850cc). It was just a very big bike and I felt it was much more bike than I needed, so I started looking at their 1300. But I didn’t fit on it well and hated the test ride, it was very rough- bucking and surging at low speeds and rpms (this was a common complaint on the yamaha 1300 forum as well I later found out).

So then I looked at the the yamaha 1100. It fit me better than the 1300 for some reason but it doesn’t have fuel injection! And it has only 2 valves per cylinder, so I felt it was technologically just a bit behind.

Then the dealer said you should look at the Vulcan 900 Classic, with its belt drive, fuel injection and 4 valves per cylindeer, it will perform just as well as the Yami 1100!. (the dealer sold both brands).

So I drove it around the parking lot a bit, like I had the Yami 1100 (they wouldn’t let me take it out on the road), I felt that it was smoother than the Yami 1100 or the 1300! Man, I mean it felt REALLY smooth, even though I wasn’t getting out of 2nd gear!

I then asked him and called another two dealers and asked each salesman, if they could have either bike, price no object, which would they take? All of them said the Vulcan! I was pretty shocked!

I thought I had better really look into Kawasaki, which I know little about!

I found a dealer about 45 minutes away who said hey, just come on up and ride them, we would be happy to let you take them out.

So, I am going at noon today (Saturday) to test drive the Kawasakis..

Here is my question after this long novel-

I wonder, at 6’4 and 210 lbs, should I be looking at the Kawasaki 1500 or 1600 instead of the 900. I will test them all today.

Can someone tell me the big differences between the 1500 and the 1600 other than 100cc. Is one smoother than the other? I am REALLY looking for smooth, not looking for the Harley feel at all!

Why would someone like the 1600 over the 1500 or vice versa?

I have a feeling that they are going to be much smoother than the Yamaha 1300’s or their 1600’s, anyone who’s tried them all know this?

I have heard that the Nomad (a dressed up 1600?) is VERY, VERY heavy! That is why I had initially wanted to look at the Yami Strat and Roadliners as they are supposedly so well balanced and feel like a much lighter bike.

Thanks for any and all opinions. I know a lot about the Yami models and features, but almost nothing about the Kawasakis!
