Intro: FOR INFORMED TOURISTS

That which symbolized the power at the beginning of the Nineties has been orientated towards sporting tourism and leaves the place to the ZX-12R. The ZZR- it- always lays out a hell of a look and its impressive capacities which leave it between the two categories. And one arrives at the first false step. on this dashboard- not a trace of the hazard warning lights- this absence- is accompanied by the disappearance of the small glove box. A lot of disorder for a machine that wants to be more touring than sporting.

Motorization: MORE CC-‘S

The large difference with the mythical 1100 is of course the cubic capacity. The 4 cylinder on line supplied with carburettors of 40mm expands from 1052 to 1164 CC. It gains logically in torque and power reaching 163-horse power thanks to the RAM-Air system- and a torque of 12-7 mkg. It should be noted that the French version is limited to106 horsepower but offers a torque of 11mkg available at 4700 rpms.

This torque- available very early- is one of the large assets of the ZZR 1200 when it is confronted with city usage. If the weight is rather significant- 280 kg with a full tank- the machine handles urban traffic with honour. The large 23-litre tank offers- moreover- one very interesting autonomy. One can plan to well exceed the 300 km before filling up.

On this point- the aspect tourism is respected.

On the road: BETWEEN SPORT AND GT

It is not an ideal mount to slip between 2 lanes of cars but the flexibility of its motorization and its general ergonomics enable it to draw its pin from the play. They are accompanied by 4 piston callipers for the front end whereas at the back- an opposing double piston calliper retains the 250mm disc. One then has a significant braking force when needed- more than adequate for this machine. What is the weak point- it is the suspension. At the front- the traditional fork does not call in particular criticisms.

Rather flexible in origin- it is adjustable in preload- compression and relaxation; one can thus refine its reactions according to the desire of the driver. At the back- it is a little more awkward. The rear wheel axle unit often tends to transfer the movements of the ground- a reaction that develops when there are two on the machine.

In this case is better to adopt a cooler riding style. The Kawasaki is addressed clearly to the sporting tourists rather than with the sportsmen tourists-
