Long, Low, and Sweet as Taffy — The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600

There’s just something about a bike sitting low on the pavement that makes it look fast as all get out, even if the bike never finds a reason to have to prove itself. The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600 is just such a bike. It sits low- with a 27.1 inch seat height, this is a true cruiser.

The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600 is the latest iteration of the motorcycle that was the first to offer Kawasaki’s 1552cc liquid-cooled V-twin, Kawasaki’s large-displacement middleweight engine with all the mechanical bells and whistles to make it one of the best rides in the Kawasaki lineup. Internals feature a gear-driven engine balancer, overhead camshafts, shaft drive, and self-adjusting valves. On top of all this tech is the classic styling that Kawasaki is so proficient at delivering, and at a price that’s hard to pass up.

While the look is as classic as it comes, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600 incorporates some serious tech to make riding as care-free as it’s possible to get. The four-stroke air/liquid cooled SOHC V-twin engine nestled in the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600’s frame displaces 1,552cc or 95 cubic inches at a compression ratio of 9.0:1. Digital fuel injection with dual 36mm throttle bodies starts the list of great tech, while the shaft drive provides a low-maintenance ownership experience.

While the trans is limited to five speeds, running through those gears will almost make you forget that the new up-and-coming thing in cruisers is the six-speed. You might want for a six-speed on the freeways as an overdrive gear, but for daily riding, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600 and its five gears are plenty to keep you entertained.

Up front, you’ll find that dual 300mm discs are used for braking, while in the back, a single 300mm disc provides plenty of stopping power. Unfortunately, ABS isn’t available for the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600, but as this technology begins to take hold in the marketplace, expect it to be added to future model years. Until then, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600 will just have to rely on the rider’s ability to judge and respond to situations the way riders have for decades.

If you want color options, perhaps your best bet would be to check with your local paint shop. If you like blue or black, however, you’re in luck. The base color is Metallic Diablo Black, while the premium paint is a two-tone Metallic Diablo Black/Luminous Polaris Blue, which looks very nice indeed sprayed on the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1600’s sculpted, flowing tank and fenders.

All in all, a very nice ride indeed. Taking one home will be sure to put a smile on your face, as well, with the base price just $10,699, while the two-tone model is $200 more. This great step-up bike is low to the ground, looks as good as it sounds, and represents great value for what you receive.

What more could you possibly ask for?
