2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD

Good entry-level motorcycles are characterized by three main qualities: being easy to ride, affordable to operate, and still managing to look cool. The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD delivers on all three fronts, making it an almost ideal beginner’s bike. Styled like a classic cruiser bike, the Vulcan 500 features a low seat height that inspires confidence in the rider by allowing them to maintain close contact with the ground when they desire.

Apart from being affordably priced and getting great fuel economy, the 2009 Vulcan 500 also makes the ideal platform on which to build one’s riding skills. But even if you’re not a beginning rider, it’s pretty easy to appreciate the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD for its ample power and comfortable cruisability. The smallest bike in the Kawasaki Vulcan line, the 500 LTD is a versatile combination of user-friendly ridability and performance inspired by an engine derived from that of a Kawasaki sport bike.

The 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD is an affordably priced bike with a low seat height and excellent fuel economy. The bike boasts distinctly LTD 500 styling with a 100/90 tire up front along with a disc brake for that enhances both styling and stopping power. The fatter rear tire helps ground the bike and enhances its classic cruiser styling further.

The Vulcan 500’s engine is based on that of the Ninja 500 sport bike. However it’s tuned differently, to be more in line with the demands of a cruiser bike. Thus the engine provides a predictable delivery of torque that’s well suited for boulevard style cruising.

However the engine still has the gusto to handle strong acceleration on the highway. Apart from its excellent performance engine, the Vulcan 500 also boasts a user-friendly chassis with a long and low steel frame that’s painted matte black. A stepped seat, bobbed rear fenders, a tank-mounted speedometer, and chrome-plated wire-spoke wheels enhance the Vulcan’s classic cruiser looks.

The low seat height not only inspires confidence, it also further enhances the Vulcan’s cruiser style looks. Taken all together, the 2009 Vulcan 500 LTD provides an appealing combination of style, performance, and fuel economy.

Because it is relatively lightweight and easy to manage, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD is ideal as a first motorcycle. Whether it’s casual cruising down the boulevard or high-speed passing on the highway, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD performs ably and remains easy to control. While the bike is indeed a favorite amongst beginner riders, many may find themselves still wanting to hop aboard it, long after they’ve progressed beyond the beginner stage.

Looks-wise the Vulcan is pretty stylish, with a curved front fender, 19-inch front wheel, quick-grab handlebars, and a one-piece seat. The one detail that perhaps contradicts the Vulcan 500’s cruiser image is the lack of a V-twin engine. However the teardrop fuel tank, speedometer, turn signal indicators and caution lamps, do compensate somewhat for the bike having the wrong kind of engine to be a real cruiser.

If the bike has an obvious drawback, it’s the lack of a fuel injection, which would likely improve engine performance radically. However on the plus side, the Vulcan’s six-speed gearbox helps ensure fuel consumption is minimized, while allowing a top speed of around 90 mpg. Aside from the introduction of a new color scheme, there were no changes made to the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.

Why they didn’t choose to add a fuel injection system in 2009, when such systems are fairly standard for these types of bikes, is slightly mystifying. But these criticisms aside, if you’re looking for an affordable entry-level bike, the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD is definitely worth checking out. It has got enough power, performance, and style to keep things interesting, while also providing the stability, reliability, and economy to make it a practical bike for learning on or even for making your daily commute.
