2004 KTM 625 SXC

At the fire lookout on Mt.

From the moment after I my old KTM 520SX, I regretted it.  it didn’t have electric or a six speed gearbox.  But it was light, and sized perfectly for me.  It long after that, I said aloud “I need dirtbike, and I need it soon”. an abundance of national parks and systems in Montana, I needed capable of 60+mph that was reliable, and still nimble in the sections.

If it was hunter orange and made by an Austian company. that be nice too.

After reviewing and digesting the abundance of on four … motorcycles on the I decided on the 625 SXC.  The motor has around for more than 10 and proven itself through of the toughest races in the world .  Its relatively unchanged for these only with changes in and flow.  The one major criticism of the was the vibrations about fifty of its users complained about.

I I could care less vibrations, as long as it kept me forward.

I decided to look for any 625 I could CV carb or FCR aside.  I found a interested in trading his 2003 for my Ducati Monster 900, but he for additional money at the last and I backed out.  Weeks I found a low-mileage 2004 500 away in Salt Lake Utah.

Once again I myself with a envelope of my dog and a ramp in the back of my truck, down the interstate with of roosting dirt around playing in my head.

Riding into Alder

The went as everyone dreams a purchase should go.  The was in the exact shape the owner had He had all the original documentation (including the slip), along with all parts including a 5.2 gallon gas and the mounting hardware.

Large of cash we’re exchanged, and minutes after I arrived, I was back to Bozeman with the 625 at me through the rearview mirror.

Riding the 625 proved to be as much fun as my 520.  A little less socket power, a little but the gearbox was spaced for both open riding, and technical as well.  The vibrations other had complained about we’re suprising at first, but 10 minutes my first ride, and I forgot them completely.

Unfortunately, the didn’t forget about and on the first ride, I lost a bolt, one of the bolts holding the fender on, and one of the radiator mounting Lesson learned.  When I got I invested in a large container of Loctite, and went to work every bolt not attached to the

After a couple seasons of around Montana, I got tired of the poor trail bike at 65mph to get to the good stuff. use laws started changing, and I more and more of my favorite trails being banned use.  In June of 2010 I it for a 2004 V-Strom 650.
