KTM is serious about its “Ready to Race,” and the new 250 XCF-W the case at a national level. CW ’s ride on the 250 was during the Inyan National Enduro in Upton, where KTM held its 2012 press launch. There several models to choose but I quickly gravitated to the 250cc for its light handling and playful character—just what I needed to the tight, twisty, tree-lined course.

It was a true race test: began on the starting line, row 17 to be Thankfully, a transfer section off the bat allowed me to get familiar with the changes.

A completely redesigned has higher torsional rigidity and longitudinal stiffness to help steering precision but with front-to-back flex to avoid and keep it comfortable. The swingarm is 0.7 lighter, while the more-centralized WP PDS is 7mm longer. The fork has new SKF-brand and oil seals, along with new bushings that improve of response and durability.

Perhaps the most noticeable at the front is the switch from triple-clamps back to cast; say you will, but this allows front-end flex for a smoother and softens harsh feedback to the arms.

All-new bodywork is and shared/transferable between XCF models. capacity is increased from 2.4 to 2.5 with a new translucent tank, a revised head- and taillight get from a more-powerful 196-watt A redesigned airbox with volume retains tool-free access.

Beyond that—or under, a new intake boot designed for the 250 XCF-W. Big news is a switch a carburetor to Keihin EFI with a throttle body on a new cylinder There is even a new electric (a kick lever remains).

As the race progressed, I became satisfied with the 250 XCF-W. The are all-day comfortable. Suspension and are excellent, although if you weigh than 180 pounds, it is likely to be a soft overall. At 175 lb.

I found no for adjustments, and the fork and shock on all accounts: over downed rocks, roots and even the whoops on the course. There was no bottoming on g -outs, either. The XCF a great combination of agility in and high-speed stability.

Sure, there is less on tap than with the new 350 or 450 XC-Ws, but the enduro tuning and new EFI give it without a big snap in power keeping it really quick-revving and So, it’s easy to stay in the of the power. Because of that, I felt underpowered or disadvantaged.

In the 250 was good enough for 12th
