2012 KTM SMC-R 690 VS 2012 KTM 690

Which bike is better, the KTM SMC-R 690 or the 2012 KTM Duke It is a question I have been since I first saw the bikes in the studio last year. It is a I have been asked times than I can remember, and it is a which I can finally answer riding the Duke for almost 6 and after a month spent on the

There is a catch though, and is that the answer really on who you are and what you are looking for. To that a little better, I two reviews for you. One from me, and one my Colleague at Kiska Bjorn

Riding the SMC-R is a bit like spending a night a hot stripper. She makes you feel and you get a serious buzz, but it also a little sketchy at times. It is and intoxicating, but at the end of it you don’t really parting ways. She looks a little edgy but with nice aftermarket parts and of guaranteed fun, but as an everyday it’s just too much.

She is just so hot and excitable you know going to end in trouble.

The Duke is finding a gorgeous girl who you relax straight away. A you would like to spend a lot of time with. A girl you live with every

I am writing this after returning the SMC-R and arriving home with the Duke (1 drive each way), and I can any doubt at all say I was happy to be back on the You sit in it, rather than on it. The seat is comfy, the ergonomics are brilliant and you can the tank nicely with knees.

It feels like it has more but it is also much smoother, partly aided by the Akrapovich Whereas the SMC-R is nervous and with most of the power up the Duke is refined and has an amazing of power all the way through the RPM’s. The is epic for wheelies, and on the tight and I actually preferred it because you can it from side to side so

I live at the foot of the mountains in but even so, less than my time is spent on roads are really perfect for the SMC-R. The is great on the mountain roads, but is happy cruising over for an extended period of time. Journeys on the SMC-R are really not comfortable. The SMC-R also has no ABS at times is good, and times Good for fun, but bad for safety.

You can turn the ABS off on the Duke anyway.

So in which bike is better? I am because I come from a of riding MX and had always thought the would be much better, but I had more fun and felt safer and comfortable on the Duke. I imagine it would be a better option for people, unless you like

I’ve been handed the keys to the 690 been 2 years since I myself out, and wrote off a during a amateur supermoto one might say I’m seriously under to give any meaningful critique on bike….Being a yank, it’s to throw a leg over something not available stateside. Walking the thing, one can’t help but over the abundance of anodized It looks the business, you won’t to spend too much time this one, Ktm’s care of the looks, just the key and start misbehaving…

First impression is that quiet, I’m missing that bark that upsets stomach a little and makes you a uneasy about the machine about to mount. So if you’re me and an angry engine turns you on, on forking out a little extra for that sounds off like got a pair ( or a single in this

So I ride out of the parking lot under the that I will behave A. I’m dressed like a squid..B. I’m on I don’t know.

C…Its not mine, and who knows if my US is really even valid here……oh and D. I’m older and wiser or at least a lot slower…..

Well philosophy lasted about 15 bike might be a little perhaps a bit mellower, than a rip snorting 450 smr, but its still motarded. It won’t take you before you are acting like a again, doing rolling jumping off curbs, wheeling all the way the Salzach in front of the police…whoops. I go on and on about how well it handles and and so on…but the real point is this thing makes you like a kid again.

The price of immortality? About 10k, and a few of your license, if you can manage to it 😉

With regards to the duke vs debate…..obviously one is a better ‘all machine and can do most of what the can in terms of performance…and probably in greater comfort…But I’ve been a huge fan of the word so I say buy the SMCr
