Bike Review: KTM Super and 950 Supermoto

Went to the Long Motorcycle show yesterday and had the to ride 2 different KTMs, the and the 950 Supermoto. I had never ridden a KTM in the and honestly only had kind of a interest in them, though I do dig the looks of the Duke. Since I really had any experience with I decided to go for a ride, and thoroughly it.

Super Duke:

This was the KTM I rode, and I gotta say, it was bad No wait, let me emphasize this BAD ASS! I think it’ll be high on my list once I pay off my and can take on a little more debt. As soon as I let out the clutch I I was gonna enjoy this It was very smooth, had a nice rumble coming from the and lots of power.

The seating position is fairly but still quite sporty. The are narrower than my motard, but than a sport bikes together with the seat worked together to make it a comfortable bike. Once we got the first obvious thing I was the power. It’s there, and right now.

At one point I had the to take off pretty hard a stop and without even I carried the front through back up in second, and would picked it up again in third if I caught up with the leader. thing begs to do wheelies. also extremely nimble It feels nearly weightless and in beautifully.

It really feels a lot my supermoto, but with more like suspension. Speaking of it was awesome. Compliant enough to out the rough spots, but still enough to throw around in the

The brakes are also just you’d expect from a big sportbike. The shifting wasn’t as precise as I’m used to my ZX, but was very smooth and satisfactory. One thing I found was that I only used the first 3

We never really went about 70, but the bike was perfectly cruising around in the lower Just to see, I shifted all the way up to 6th and that the motor was barely idle. It still had adequate though I’d probably to 5th to make a pass. On a long trip I could see how having tall gearing would be to save fuel, and cruise at a mellow rpm.

I was also to find that I wasn’t blasted by wind. Somehow the little headlight fairing, with your position to reduce the wind noticeably. I was really really impressed. is a really great bike.

It’s comfortable enough for rides, and daily commuting, but to be ridden hard in the canyons, and on one If I buy one, I’ll be turning my ZX a track only bike as never wanna ride it on the again. The SuperDuke really is good.

950 Supermoto:

I have to I really cant consider bike a supermoto. It’s way too and way too heavy, and I have my doubts taking it into the dirt. said it was a hell of a fun bike. It the same motor as the Super so again, power is everywhere. also very nimble and feeling in the corners.

The seating is a bit more relaxed on one, with the pegs from the seat. The down is that the seat is farther the ground, so if you’re short in the leg you can much forget about it. I a bit more wind blast on one, I think due to the more position and slightly wider

KTM 950 Supermoto

If I had only ridden this I probably would be much excited about it, as it really was a fun bike to ride. Just around on it I rolled on the throttle in 2nd at 40mph just to see how the acceleration be.

Not only did it get up and go, but it did it with the front end higher and higher as I went, with me trying to keep it (they told us no wheelies, I did my ) The suspension again was good, softer and longer travel, is expected on something with the title. The brakes on my tester a little unbalanced though. The was very powerful, but a little and the rear was just kinda

The Super Duke’s brakes had perfectly balanced, but these didn’t feel right. though the handling was great, and it was more comfy. This is a bike I could see riding for distances on. With the addition of a and a better seat I think it make a really fun tourer.

I really couldn’t call it a It is a lot of fun. I guess I’d have to put it in the standard category, but as a stupidly fun and powerful standard.

I came away with a new for the orange bikes, as well as a desire to acquire that Super Duke. If the intent of test rides is to convince to buy their bikes. KTM should more.

I dont think I heard any comments and I saw an awful lot of smiles, though it was chilly and a little wet
