First Impression: 2012 KTM Lineup – Dirt Rider

When racing off-road, and in case a National Enduro, you are for a few things in your ride I myself am not too familiar with. I motocross running through my and am more aggressive than when it comes to trail When I first hopped on the new KTM XC-W’s and XCF-W’s I honestly sure what to think.

I’m used to a bike that a lot rougher and is made to hold up too harsher hits.

Both the and four-strokes had great stability I was ripping down the trail or my way through the trees. I felt this was mainly due to the low riding end, which at first odd to me. I was slamming into bumps and out the suspension but I forgot I wasn’t on a track.

I did stiffen up the shock by going in a turn on the high speed on bike to help hold up the end. Doing this me to ride the bike a little aggressively without affecting how the handled at higher speeds. It made the bike lean the corners better and sharpened up the of the front end.

With the stiffer rear I was able to aim the bike where I with more precision.

The two exciting bikes to ride the 250 and 300 XC-Ws. Both felt lightweight especially when ridden back-to-back with the four-strokes. Just by popping the and shifting my weight back, I easily get the front end up over

And with the extra torque of the it made things just much easier. The 250 and 300 feel the same when it comes to and handling. When you turn the on the 300, that thing has a bark that sets it from the 250.

Not that the 250 is lacking power by any it is just fun to have some power to play with.

The 250 and 450 XC-W have very but usable bottom end power, the 450 makes a lot more of it. The small of vibration and the smooth hitting seem to go hand in hand. The 250 decent but likes to be ridden in the mid so it requires a bit of shifting to stay in the rpms.

It can be lugged but if you are in too high of a gear, you might have to be patient for it to get a higher in the revs. Riding the 450 tight stuff was almost to for such a big bike. I could off in third gear from almost stopped, and easily let out the and the motor would just along and build up speed

On some trails, I was able to it 3rd and enjoy the ride with of power down low and more enough top end. Here is a of changes for the 2012 two- and XC-Ws.

250 And 300 XC-W

It’s always when a manufacturer puts into improving their line, and for 2012 the smokers some substantial improvements. The 250 and 300 XC-W were all outfitted a new frame and swingarm to make for a new 7mm longer PDS shock. The front was reworked with new oil and dust and new bushings that have an Teflon coating.

A new air box and intake boot brings volume and better breathability to the New bodywork and a new cylinder for the 300 XC-W off the list of changes for the two-strokes.
