Review of the Kymco Like

August, 2010

UPDATE April 2011 — has lowered the price on the Kymco 2011 to $2,599

Scooter in the USA prefer retro scooter The basic shape of the classic design is what US consumers to be drawn to in scooters. I can certainly see Vespa LX in the new Kymco Like, and even some classic in the cowl area.

The rest of the purchases more modern Scooters with aerodynamic and more rider protection wind, rain and road Scooters like the Kymco ‘S’ and the Kymco Yager

The Kymco Like is available in 50cc and 4-… 163cc It is the 163cc that we reviewed.

get the whole name thing out of the Like is not, in my opinion, a name for a scooter. Then Kymco doesn’t have of a reputation for picking names will do well in the US market. The Bet and Win ( it’s a real scooter ) did NOT sell well here the fact that it’s a fine scooter.

I believe the had a lot to do with the poor sales. The thing I don’t like the Like is the 200 part of the name. It has a engine, closer to 150 than The same can be said for pretty every 200 scooter currently in the

Let’s call them they are folks.

I rode the Like 200i for several and also passed it along to the brave Jordana who gave her on the scooter. Jordana normally a Genuine Buddy International 150 she is not being pestered by yours to review something. I will Jordana’s comments under Says a little later in review.

Speedometer Reading/Speed/Fuel

Scooterville in Minneapolis generously the Kymco Like 200i for this review. It had just a few on it when I picked it up. Before this review I had heard other people who had ridden the 200i previously that it was a doggy scooter.

I don’t if the early production models different or it they had ridden a machine but that was NOT my impression of the 200i. Acceleration off the line is with the Like 200i, at as quick as a Genuine Buddy The mid-range roll-on acceleration is strong. I am fairly certain the fuel injection on the Like is contributing to this.

There is no lag in places on the throttle, just smooth responsiveness.

Testing a GPS unit showed that the and odometer on the Like 200i are accurate. They read 5% optimistic which is to say that the indicates about 5% faster the actual speed. At an indicated of 30 MPH the actual speed is 28.5 At an indicated 50 MPH the actual speed is 47

I was able to get the Like 200i to an 66 MPH which was actually 63 MPH. A pilot ( about 150 lbs. ) was to get the Like 200i to an indicated 70 MPH was an actual top speed of 66 MPH. A disappointing as I was expecting an actual top of 70 MPH.

Fuel economy the review was 82 MPG. I consider quite good as the scooter was NOT in and was being ridden hard. break-in under normal conditions I would expect 90 MPG out of the 200i.

The Kymco 200i is powered by a 163cc injected forced-air cooled A CVT ( Continuously Variable Transmisssion ) power automatically. Disc front AND rear handle chores and a telescopic fork up along with dual in the rear make up the suspension.

The 200i rides on 12 inch front and rear. Before we at scooters from competitors, I is would be interesting to look at other offerings in this class. Both the Kymco 200i and the People ‘S’ 200 a 163cc powerplant. The People on bigger ( 16 inch ) tires and is

For an MSRP that is just higher, the Yager 200GT BOTH liquid cooling and injection. All three machines different and distinct designs.

For comparison, I selected the Vespa new from Piaggio with injection and the Honda SH150, fuel injected. Both machines are 150s, which is to the Like’s 163 displacement. Both are more expensive.

These are to be representative examples of other that the potential Like buyer might be considering.

The Like 200i comes with a nice dash includes a clock and fairly fuel gauge. There is a trunk that is also The trunk appears well and did NOT rattle at all during testing. a good thing that the is there because there is little storage space on the otherwise.

There is a small box up front, but it can only be accessed the ignition key. Not very If one’s garage door is in the glove box, one must off the scooter and remove the key from the to open the glove box, the door opener and then the scooter to place it in the garage.

One nice feature inside the box is a power socket. I like location better than the typical under-the-seat location. I to put a three-quarter sized helmet the seat and the storage area was so I couldn’t close the seat. Of the trunk easily accepted the The fuel filler is also under the seat.

There are nice flip-out rests for a passenger and the seat is big enough to accommodate two.

The beam headlight switch on the control includes a flash-to-pass that is nice to have. All of the and controls appear to be high

Riding Impressions

Kymco Like 200i

As mentioned the Kymco Like 200i has acceleration and I found it to be fun to ride. The was adequate to the task at hand and a fairly smooth and stable Braking was VERY good.

Not to the level of a Genuine Blur. but rear disc really a difference in hard braking to scooter with a drum in the back. There is one issue riding the Like 200i and is the ergonomics of the riding position.

The 200i has a seat height of over 30 inches — a good thing for those of us shorter inseams. The issue is the height of the floorboards. As you can see from the Jordana ( who has a 32 inch inseam and is 5 tall ) could not find a position.

She had very little leg room and her were close to hitting the If Jordana pushed back on the seat, she couldn’t easily the handlebars. With a 30 inch I didn’t have quite the issue, but I can see how this limits who can fit on a like 200i.

Check the position carefully when this ( or ANY scooter ) for purchase.

Fit and

Kymco has a well-deserved reputation for and value. The Like 200i has nice fit and finish. The seat material was a little loose on our model and the rear grab-rails kind of flimsy. Otherwise all the appeared to be very high The assembly of the scooter is very with all panels fitting

The color and finish are excellent. I reviewed several Kymco and own a Kymco People People 250 and can say complete confidence that are the equal of any other manufacturer it comes to quality.

The Kymco Like 200i is OK. It big and feels like I’m in an oversized chair because the position is weird. Also of the components feel cheap ( cover, plastic passenger s), and the glove compartment is inconvenient it doesn’t have the option to it unlocked with a push open.

I see why the top case is included ( not much in the way of storage ). The case did hold all my nicely when I went to the Office, though. It does smoothly and feels pretty in terms of engine. I like the and the clock.

It was surprisingly easy to get up on the stand for its bulk.

The Like 200i is a well-made that offers good up to about 60 MPH. I expect it to be and durable and to return good economy. It does have ergonomic issues that limit it’s appeal, be and check out the seating position for YOU shopping for this or any scooter.
