For those of you who missed out on up for the 2011 Pipeburn Meat Burn (it’s this guys!) or for the rest of you overseas we’ve been sending out updates on the day to all those who put up their In the last one we mentioned that be riding on dirt for a small of the day. Cue about 27 frantic from some of the attendees bullets about riding bikes off-road.

I duly the panic (hello Mike if reading) and went on my merry which on this particular day shooting the beautiful Guzzi you see you. Imagine then the chuckles that I enjoyed I asked the owner of this (550 lbs) beauty, the cool and most friendly Ottesen, how she handled. “Beautifully. I take her off-road; she’s fun to ride on the dirt.” Damn brother.

Can you introduce yourself?

Dave I am an Aircraft Mechanic (I detect a here – Andrew), I work on gas turbine engines. I live in the Shire about 90ks of Sydney, great country and really suited to the Guzzi.

Can you us a little bit about her?

a 1973 Moto Guzzi GT speed (similar to the American I’ve had her (I looked up the sale 18 years now. A good had a 750 Ambassador (looks the same as the GT but is a speed) and I always like the and sound of it so when I found one in the local classifieds (an old fashion type back then!) in Victoria. we headed down in his old van to pick it up, I think it was an 16 hour trip in one day! but well it.

Since I’ve had the bike rebuilt the motor, changed the for the later one (stronger output splines), and in the gearbox I’ve a selector spring and seals and some final drive When I got the bike it had footpegs bottom image), full seat and smaller handle so I changed to running boards, saddle and American style bars, I got these from V, a Sydney based guy who does frame Guzzi spares.

You her into the Deus v-twin how was that?

I really only to have a look at the show and intend to go in it but the guys at Deus “go on, put it in”, so I did. glad I did, I had a great day to all the guys there, looking at so different bikes, something for The people from Deus put on a great day.

No, they don’t fold to reveal rockets. I already

What’s she like to ride?

I riding her, great position for those big fast corners, I do a few Guzzi rallies, the Fringe Rally in N.S.W and I did my Spaghetti Rally last down in Victoria. We generally do 1500 kms in the weekend and she is perfect for it, in the dirt as well!

Note you have to flip up to insert the Just like a jet fighter, is

Ever thought of restoring or her?

I have thought it but not for long, the paint did look good when I got her, but worn over the past 18 so we are a good match. I can’t it any more as it’s down to in some places so maybe a coat over the top someday it gets too thin.

What other bikes do you

I have a Bennelli 125ss I am restoring; it’s similar to the they race in the Motogiro in I also have a Suzuki GT 250 style that I’m I’m making the race chambers from scratch for it – it should be loud.

She’s on New Wales “vintage plates” – can you what that means to our and interstate readers?

I’ve had the on vintage plate now for almost two I joined the Classic Italian Association of Australia and they a club plate scheme you can register you 30 year old bike or on Historical plates. It costs $50 a for rego and I pay $83 for comprehensive insurance. You are to club rides/rallies but there are you can also suggest rides you might like to go on; not bad for under a year.

A good bunch of guys at they love their bikes.

The “road kill”

What’s yr ultimate Guzzi?

I’d a Moto Guzzi 1100 I’ve had a go on mates and they good, handle well, and fantastic with the aftermarket But if I had lots of cash I’d grab a Guzzi V7 Sport .

What’s yr like?

My workshop (or “shed” in parlance) is pretty basic, 2 work benches, wire polishing buffs, welder and tools. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter, I love it.

See – a little dirt never anyone. Man up, people!

If she was a movie, one would she be?

It would have to be Force ; as the cops rode in it. Great move, and I won’t you how it ends! (Definitely worth if you haven’t seen it – Andrew)
