Intro

Moto Guzzi has a great reputation for great motorcycles, and they keep that tradition going with the 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva, which comes in two models, the Moto Guzzi Breva 750 and the high-octane Moto Guzzi Breva 1200 Sport. Both are great looking, comfortable bikes that your average rider is sure to enjoy motoring around town.

If you’ve got some riding years on your belt, you might be taking the claim that Moto Guzzi’s reputation puts it with the upper echelon of motorcycle brands with a bit of a grain of salt. Because Moto Guzzi has been around for such a long time, some motorcycle enthusiasts began to fear the company had become a little stagnant, resting on its laurels and not concerning itself with reinvigorating the brand that has made so many fall in love with riding over the years. The Breva is something of an answer to that challenge, an appealing, quality ride that is a great entry point for new riders to the Moto Guzzi name.

The 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva 750 is a good looking bike that’s a nice entry into the motorcycle world for relatively new riders. Most will find the upright riding position and supportive seat to be quite comfortable, and this bike is light for the amount of power it provides while still having some substance to it. The five speed manual transmission may keep you a little busy, but that’s part of the fun of owning this motorcycle, which features a 744cc, air-cooled, V twin, four-stroke engine that cranks out as much as 48.3 horsepower with 40.3 lb-ft of torque.

The 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva 750 is definitely a fun ride, especially for newer riders, with light but precise steering and a gentle suspension to go with fairly decent power. The Brembo front brake and rear drum brake should be enough to keep most riders out of trouble. The short gears make this bike a bit more appropriate for street driving than the highway; it just sounds and rides better at slightly lower speeds.

The one thing that might give potential Moto Guzzi Breva 750 buyers pause is the price. At an MSRP of $7790, the Breva puts itself in some competitive space, and there are some nice bikes you can have for this price. Still the Breva 750 definitely deserves a seat at the table.

The Moto Guzzi Breva 1200 is a bigger, and natUrally, sportier ride that will appeal to some more experienced drivers. That sportiness is as much cosmetic as it is mechanical, with a headlight cowling and chin spoiler that indicates a bike that’s ready for action.

The Breva 1200 offers good speed and control and nice power with its 1151cc, air-cooled, V-twin, four-stroke engine linked to a six-speed manual transmission, and dual disc front brakes and rear disc brakes will help you keep things under control. You will probably find that this bike is a little heavy, and there’s some shaking as well. Unlike the 750, you’ll probably want to get the 1200 Sport up to somewhat higher speeds for the best ride.

Like the 750, the price tag for the 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva 1200 Sport is high enough that you want to be sure that this is the bike you want, with a base MSRP of $13,590, but you’re definitely getting a quality machine for the money.

In summary, if you like the Guzzi brand, you’ll probably really like the 2008 Moto Guzzi Breva. That being said, it won’t necessarily win you away from other quality Italian or Japanese bikes in the same price range.
