Moto Guzzi California launched!

On November 13, 2012, Guzzi history was made the launch of the new California 1400 at show in Milan. Two versions are made available and both are in the famous Mandello del Lario in Italy.  The two models launched are the 1400 Touring and the Custom.

The Touring is a bagger that with the following features: hard bags (35 liter each), windshield, touring touring saddle, chrome guards up front for the engine and at the for protecting the hard bags, selectable engine performance traction control, cruise and anti theft.  These are all standard equipment on the Touring.

  I have to say, my California now seems 20 years old when I it to the new 1400 Touring.  More that further down the but first let’s move on to the new Custom.

The California 1400 is what Moto Guzzi as the “wicked sister” to the Touring With drag bars, a seat, no windshield and no bags, the seems to take on the role of a street cruiser with selectable performance modes, control and cruise control on this bike same as on the model  Since the Custom has no bags, the advanced rear get to show off their external that provide for improved performance and a custom racing

Unlike the recent past, a range of well thought out accessories are offered by Moto for the new California to help owners their new beast.  Those include such things as exhaust pipes; black handle bars; additional LED and LED turn signals; a lower leather-covered side bags; brackets and covers;  billet levers, grips and mirrors.  more practical accessories a choice of two different trunks of 50 or 60 storage capacities, heated and passenger foot boards.

Personally, I’m blown away by major step forward Moto Guzzi.  They not only join the ranks of full size touring and motorcycles, but they have new standards by offering advanced as standard features on this of motorcycle, and by manufacturing the largest production motorcycle engine in Congratulations to all at Moto Guzzi and to Piaggio for supporting this

On the other side of the coin, I always been fond of the of the Moto Guzzi California .  new California 1400 really things up a notch away such simplicity.  I’m not saying is a negative, but is a different approach.  One argue that the now “old” was lagging too far behind in design to be on the market.  The engine was “small” for the of bike it usually got grouped as people like to categorize

  I never considered 1064 cc but the new 1400 (1380 cc) certainly Moto Guzzi more up to with their Asian and competitors in the Touring and Custom Do we really need that engine displacement, of course Do we tend to like big engines?


  Yes.  However, weight and are two very important issues choosing a motorcycle.  I don’t exact numbers yet ( UPDATE:   The list prices per Moto USA are Touring $17,990 ; Custom ). In the end, the bike is an obvious in my book
