to mount a Tonti timing in a loop frame

Question Gregory Bender:

It is my understanding the Tonti alternator cover hit the front fender upon fork compression? I don’t any direct experience with however, so I may be recalling incorrect etc. Can you shed some on this?

My understanding is, if you do nothing, the (or perhaps more accurately the brace) will hit the cover. again I’ve been that all that is necessary is to the lower front fender downward. This would drilling 2 new holes, and leave 2 to be plugged, so a purist might not to do it, but then a purist wouldn’t be a tonti motor in a loop anyway.

Now if you look at a California II front (granted tonti frame), have a flat spot into the fender, I hope isn’t necessary as mine is and might flake.

Other I have heard of folks a welded spool onto the frame to do what I have with my links. While I was all this up, I put a tonti drive in my loop frame, and installed the rear trans mount and tray. I supported the front of the with a jack.

I figured I’d use the alignment of the with the lower rail the rear of the oil pan forward up to the 3rd oil pan bolt are parallel nicely), to get the output alignment correct. I wasn’t with that method, and I I had paid attention to the original shaft alignment relative to the arm pivot, but never did.

I to minimize stress on the u-joint, the shaft of the trans should directly … center to the arm pivot (I mean centerline to Achieving this alignment, I that the front tonti mount hole did not align the crotch in the loop frame crotch is formed when the welds the front motor onto the loop). Now to bring story full circle and a long story longer, to the spool weld jobs.

If the anecdotal evidence on fender is based on folks using the spool method, their might be different than because I believe my motor bolt is lower than whew.

Now if I wasn’t so lazy I get a drivetrain back into the now that I have my links, but waiting till I have the and trans done, so I hopefully have to do it once.

I invested $155 in my links, included shortening and rethreading the motor mount bolt not a bolt, has a nut on each end). be thrilled if someone would key up my (in the photo section) with the cad software, so we could get an independent on these, because if I blew the I’m looking at shelling out at another $140.

Finally got my motor and trans done and together. Got them up into the frame tonight, and finally got to out how my new front motor hanger did as far as output shaft alignment. pleased to report that it great.

The first shot show the the convert output shaft is and threaded. I screwed a long into it, and the picture shows how the shaft axis is co-planer the swing arm pivot axis bolt exactly splits the pin holes). this is key to minimize on the u-joint.

Output shaft I threaded a long bolt the convert output shaft. You can see it … center to the swing arm

Output shaft alignment: I a long bolt into the output shaft. You can see it aims center to the swing arm pivot.
