Moto Guzzi 850T3FB

The Guzzi 850 T/3 I got new in 1977 and still it. Makes the greatest touring, has taken me all over the Northeast. I can say it’s the best all around I have ever rode or had.

If you look at all the Classifieds or in Europe you still see them for with 15,000 to 150,000 for sale ($4000 UP). How bikes can say that after 30 years? Except for having the oil adjusting the carbs and cables, almost maintenance free.

It great and even in 5 gear the end will lift when you down on the throttle.

Moto-Euro has voted the Moto Guzzi T -3 6th out of 10 Practical Classics motorcycles you can still get parts for and are able to be on super highways. That is for a magazine that is pro English is in love with Norton, etc. This is what say about the T -3. If you look beyond the for your classic, then the Guzzi T -3 and its derivatives offer competence.

And for some reason, enthusiast organizations on both of the Atlantic are among the go-getting we know ( go figure ). The bikes are of 100 mph until the cows come This is why after close to (I got it new ) 30 year I still ride my T -3 and I gone 100 mph up to 10 miles continually on the NEW NORTHWAY (Keep an eye out for NEW YORK I have a 1998 Sport that I ride more and enjoy but my heart will be there with my T -3.

The T-3 has been serviced at By Top Phil Cheney he put a Dyna III Electronic Ignition. Replaced cables from #6 to #4, Iridum NGK Plugs BP6ES and MAGNACORE-ING KN air filter # MG0200, replaced Michelin ME33 LASER AND ME99A 120/90V18 and balanced Replaced fuel filter all fluids Brake, Motor oil Transmission oil and Shaft oil.

a stainless steel choke from Joe Kenny at Joe has things he Machines that are of a great Machinist and a great to deal with. The bike great but I love to go the extra

Called Gordon Richie at needed the original mufflers were stock (have all the of the original parts) with the so maybe some day I can return the T-3 to exactly the way it was in 1977. Then I Curtis Harper at and got a of Valtek Mufflers and they so sharp am so pleased with the

We ran into a problem with the so we removed it got a kit from Curtis which has two air pod filters hose for oil unit etc. Then to my favorite Dyno Technicians and Mike at Mike put it on the Dyno and had to change Jets, etc. The changes can be seen of the performance and with modifications at the of the Graph.

Graph #1 is before we the air box and put air pods and mufflers on. Graph #2 is the run after the KN air pods and mufflers are Graph #3 are speed runs. is a 7+HP improvement on the T-3 and the ride is out of world. Hope this helps some one out there.

I am looking for ideas and how others bettered there Bikes. contact me if you have any things you done to Improved the Performance of bike or any Dyno runs you may I am always learning thanks.

More Impressions of the 850T3 by Kruger:

I wish I could say I’ve had my 1981, 850T3 new because that would meant a lot more years of biking. I however only it in 1994 from a guy that was a bit for cash and I haven’t looked since.

The bike was in good with 25000 kilometers on the Everything was still standard and the I took it for a test drive, I in love with it. It was totally to the Jap bikes I had owned previously. It had and it was rough.

I wasn’t concerned the max speed because I was in cruising I was mostly going to use it to get to work and because, at that stage my (now ex-wife) was not really bikes and long trips out of the question. Living at the coast has drawbacks and after mommy a leave of absence from my, and the life, I decide to give the a good once over. I touched the motor but only on the cosmetics and replacing all the frame

Also had to replace the final bearings due to my own stupidity and with our rate, what a knock gave me. It however turned out nice at the end with the addition of a T4 and seat, which I chopped a I also replaced the stock with fiberglass ones as the metal one, kept on from the vibrations (Page 58 of the pics).

All this took me about 2 because, while I was busy that, I got clueless and got married (There ain’t no … for

At the end of the rebuilt, the Guzzi was too beautiful and No.2 was on her way out. She couldn’t the Guzzi getting more than her but, she was mean and she my boney. She dumped some powder into my gas tank. I know about it and, stuff is worse than paste!

I did a 3000 kilometer trip to one of the most beautiful of South Africa without any and, it was only much that I realized that the was using more oil than it Thank goodness for Pro-long if it wasn’t for that, I would had to rebuild the whole motor. I only re-sleeved, re-ringed, the heads and then added a spacer, a worked cam and lightened the a bit.

So, now it’s running once more and although I use it mostly to work and back, a great ride. It now has 85000 on the clock. Problems?

I can’t think of anything except for the boo-boos I made and the wrath of a misguided women. were minor things charging system problems I sorted out with an aftermarket unit from the UK (don’t it though because, it has no … and once it let me down because of a wire the corroded off Plusses: Its a machine.

It’s trustworthy and of a strong (Expression from the best known Guzzi in SA — Charley Cooper. VERY strong) It’s enough for a nice ride and for cruising.

It sounds great, with slash cut pipes I put on and it attention. It’s great for around town although the cam it a bit less pleasurable than but the open road is a breeze. I don’t like about it: The air filter. It’s a schlep to it so, I chucked it out and fitted KN’s.

T he that you have to drop the to replace the oil filter. The charging is still not 100% but I got an idea your website and I might try it out. The side stand at the front of the frame but, you get use to it. Got a new in my life now, but one with a

She’s crazy about the So crazy that she bought one as well. It’s a baby Mk2) but it’s a start. I to take it in hand and put a personal to it so you might see it on the visitor’s pics It’s a learning curve it’s a bit different from the big but, I’ll get there.

all, it’s still a New Guzzis are available once in South Africa after a absence and maybe, one day when grown-up, I’ll be able to a Cali EV or 1100 Sport but then, I’ll stick to my thank you very much.
