Moto Guzzi Breva Sport. A Bike for “The Interesting Man in the World”

Duende — meaning of duende as in tener (having duende) is a rarely-explained in Spanish art, particularly having to do with emotion, and authenticity. In fact, tener can be loosely translated as having — Wikipedia

I get a kick out of the Dos Equis Commercial with “The Interesting Man in the World”.  OK, so it’s tongue and cheek, but I I would elaborate on it a little. would this guy be all about on two

He’d be someone with nothing to to anyone — every ride is his The enjoyment of speed, implementation of the sensations and mental stimulation. in my mind, is howhis (or HER ) two-wheeled is assembled.

This Most Person would choose a with  duende; the emotion, and authenticity to match their and soul.

Moto Guzzi USA was kind enough to loan me a 1200 Sport for 10 days.  I be logging my regular routine on the 160 miles per day of riding from to Santa Barbara and Back, with a few meet-ups with on weekends and some week

The Breva 1200 Sport for

So many of the reviews about the 1200 Sport are quick, one day where a truck pulls up in of a pack of journalists — they insurance forms and take off for the thrashing their bikes and then reporting back on they’ve found.  The ALL the Breva 1200 Sport as far as I can but these excellent reviews translated into seeing all over the place.  My purpose is to about what it’s to actually own one . at least for 10 days.  I to have a theme for the post, and I up with it after 50 miles or so:

is the bike that “The Interesting Man (or Woman) In the World” want.

I think the “Most Person in the World” would something out of the ordinary, but without boy-racer bling.  Something solid, interesting engineering, but reliable, since spending in the shop is not “interesting”.  The must do many things — it doesn’t have to be an AMA Superbike lights — I don’t personally see my “ ” choosing a heavyweight cruiser

Comfort and control are important, as are fit and  Gotta sound right,  Feel free to comment!

Let’s see if you agree. I’ll let you what happens, warts and  As my ten days’ ownership ticks I’ll “semi-live blog” my and the reactions of the people that I contact with.

Day 1 — pick up Torrance, and Ride to Work in Barbara, then home.

Sport headlight on a misty Morning

I Rode my Ducati ST2 to Torrance to pick up the Breva. into a non-descript warehouse I was met by an attendant that had all my insurance and forms to fill out; the prepared bike was given to me.  It had miles on it with a little wear, but all in all it was beautiful, in black with white accents it’s gigantic, World-War-Two-spotlight-sized staring at me.

Time to kick the and light the fires!

I took it at first — the bike is a normal UJM pattern 6-speed, and I’m used to the shift of my 72 Eldorado and the GP-shift kit I on the Duc, so I rarely ride  My first thought was that it a little heavy to pick up, and the handlebars startled at first, but complete sense within the few seconds of riding.  I thoroughly how well the bike handled at low speeds.

The very, very saddle puts the rider to the center of gravity. You can ride the around a parking lot like an MSF training bike.

There is unmistakeable Guzzi sound, more .  Frankly, this sounds like the Big Block of motorcycle engines.  Like the engine of motorcycle engines.

The 1200 V-Twin Engine, with the Norge.Pratt and Whitney — you get the drift. It doesn’t like some kind of F1 This lump sounds it was meant to power an aircraft

Taking off from a light, it just that.  The big just pulls you forward effortless torque.  You a choice of three gears for any speed; there’s just so grunt you are constantly tempted to  just a little, to feel it.

not a journalist that rides bikes a year.  I’ve got a of nice bikes, and ridden a few This one just feels a great bike.  I think I it.

But am I going to want it as as I do now in ten days?

The next hundred miles let me down as I ran up the 405 to the 101 and cruised along the to Santa Barbara, where my I just off State Street. I lanes, ran effortlessly along as the opened up, just taking it settling into an extremely lope between 70-80.  A is just a twist away.

You are aware that the RPM band is not as as some bikes, but the gearing up beautifully with the engine’s A little red “blipper” light in the tells you the engine’s had enough and it’s time to shift.

Sport Dash, 72 Eldorado in

Input into my brain a slow-moving gas gauge, an unbelievably but small fairing, and handling is  outstanding .

The brakes rock. Petal-disk Brembos up front and a disk in the rear.  The shaft drive makes no impressions whatsoever.

After a stint I arrived at my office and that my …, arms, and other parts felt I had been aboard for 10 minutes.   bike is really comfortable .

little fairing up front, small and unobtrusive, is  better the much larger set-up on my  I had no serious buffeting, yet the wind hit my helmet at just the right to keep the ventilation going. riding position is so comfortable, forward of “standard”, which I contributes to the completely relaxed position at highway speeds.

Oh my God I can’t wait for my day to get over so I can get on.

As the Sun began its dive into the I rode back down the 101 to  There was too much light for me to how the headlight illuminates the road, but I was to have it for the visibility factor. 101 is littered with drivers from the week’s work and in nothing more than home.

Traffic was backed up, and the performed admirably as I split slower than I do on the Ducati; bars and mirrors take getting used to.  Still the of torque provided by the engine, with the excellent balance made it easy.

First Day Impressions

Built like took a block of steel and away everything that look like a Moto

A dumptruck full of torque. I mention this?

For a big standard, this bike has the low manners of a scooter.

Not thirsty.

Brakes that affect the rotation of the Earth if for evil.

Nice, understated, got nothing to prove but I’m discriminating”

A previous rider had cranked the shock up for canyon carving,  I to adjust it tomorrow morning for world riding.

Putting everyday mileage on this is going to be a real pleasure.

Is the bike for that Most Person?  I don’t know if I’m enough to determine this, but it has my attention after the first 200
