Moto Guzzi Norge GT8V | Review

2011 Guzzi

I’ve known it was on its way for a time, but Moto Guzzi to sell the stock of 4 valve still left before the updated 8 Valve version.

engine on the 2011 Moto Norge 1200 GT8V was seen on the Griso 1200 launched in Rome a couple of ago. In the Norge chassis tuned to produce 102 horsepower but the early torque push makes it a Guzzi.

The transverse V90 is an full of character but the 102hp doesn’t feel quite as straight away like the new 8V does with its 105hp of this engine. The engines are in the same and the differences lies in the layout.

On the gorgeous Tuscan the Norge first feels a bit compared to its other flagship the Stelvio. But as soon as we really get the Norge 1200 just on me, a lot!

I don’t care so much the half-hearted electric wind or any other gimmick. It’s the riding pleasure surrounding bike I’m after and it’s in the bucket load.

Despite its dry weight the Norge GT8V from side to side a sport tourer but the Norge is as in the name a GT bike. It’s to say that those double panniers on my bike were and handling would change as as they were filled up for a journey.

I really like the way the big feels in corners and soon I push harder into the than the ABS brakes allow. You speculate that I was about to a corner, but I blame the ABS brakes I felt were overzealous to a one too many for my tastes and nearly at this one point.

Due to time we don’t really cruise at launches, we race and ride whenever we can. I still it up to sixth gear to test the response on low rpm and there are very few that can do this with as effort as the Norge GT8V. The big 8 V90 behaves in a smooth and relaxing way cruising.

The new efficient oil-cooler is mounted and it reduces mechanical sound and power.

The suspension has been with new spring rates and preload at the back which is one of the features that enables a quicker change from left to right in tight The Norge transfers power to the 180 tyre by way of a cardan and accelerating feels very similar to of an air-cooled BMW. Most of the is available very early in the range and 104Nm is available at a low whilst max power is reached at

Above 7K rpm there’s little to so it’s better to short and use that lovely torque The new handlebar has been lowered and slightly back towards the This is a comfort upgrade but allows a more sporty style in perfect harmony the 810mm high well seat.

The footpegs are mounted fairly low for but the ground clearance is still enough to have plenty of fun up and mountain roads. The new exhaust looks a lot more stylish the old one but beware of that bolt the exhaust as it vibrated loose on of the test bikes and one test even had his muffler loosen and it was on the tarmac until another stopped him.

This need to be secured better in or Moto Guzzi will have to replace this muffler on many bikes scratch damage. The tires are the Pirelli Angel ST in a 120/70-ZR17 and These tires have allround capabilities and are amongst the tires you can buy for wet weather riding.

Guzzi claims that the headlights remain from the Norge. The fairing has been to tract air from the engine to the wheel rather than near the rider. Then got that electric wind that I don’t like much.

There’s not enough travel to somebody my height (6 foot and shrinking) any particular benefit in the position, hence a waste of and weight. The wind screen is too thin so it vibrates a lot in the wind. one that’s really good and to operate from the handlebars moving your hands and I’m in again.

Now you’d need the length of Pinocchio’s nose to the lower/raise buttons and I’m not lying.

The and centre stand has been for ease of use and it’s easy to the bike on its mid stand. Other details include heated as standard and a 12 volt external socket. The fuel tank 23 litres which ensures of touring miles in one go.

Moto Guzzi Norge GT8V Conclusion

I personally the 2011 Moto Guzzi GT 8V pretty irresistible despite its old Italian flaws. It’s not we see flaws in modern Italian these days but Moto have a few like that muffler vibrating loose and a wind shield that satisfy.

Everything else the engine, new fairing and handling are fantastic. The ABS brakes works despite me complaining a little but I it in an extreme way which many will never ever close.

The flaws we find in a day may your average Joe years to and Moto Guzzi will than likely remedy any long before it hits the rooms. The Norge GT 8V is priced to BMW’s that can be compared but BMW you get more gadgets and dealer

I still find the big Moto flagship to ooze of Italian and character and have absolutely no whatsoever to recommend a Moto Norge over most manufacturer’s offerings because more special in both and looks. Yes you guessed it, I do love the Happy 90th Moto
