and Debs at Moto Kiwi for and advice on oil.
For what its — I use Penrite oil in da engine, any in the box and Motul in the diff (the one with Moly)
Setting the at tdc is confusing on a guzzi the first (for some)
Most, ok, engines are set on the heel of the cam and because of on many engines setting at tdc is impractical as they are either or on the opening ramps. The confusing is setting them on the marks S and D (right) because in the excitement forget that the marks the pointer twice in each and tdc is not when the mark is reached time, its every second Given the uneven firing of the it feels ‘wrong’ to many ending up with clattery and bent push rods.
This.
Basic Instructions for a Big Twin Valve Adjust
1. Put on stand then remove plugs.
2. Move back back and forth. Select a gear, at least fourth.
3. both rocker covers.
4. the rocker to the front of the bike is the rocker, the one nearest the
carb/injector is the Inlet rocker.
5. Now one cylinders rocker gear at the time get a friend to rotate the
wheel in the normal (forward) of rotation (DOR) slowly,
6. Now you want to do is first watch the rocker go down and come up,
carry on rotating and do the same to the rocker but as soon as the rocker
cease rotating the rear for a moment, then find a piece of rod say 2MM wide
by at least long, insert through the plug hole and rest on top of
then continue rotating slowly until the rod comes up you to the highest
point then stop. The will be near enough at TDC to set clearances.
7. You will need to the clearance for you’re particular stated in the (ManSpec)
Manufacturers look in the manual under / valve clearances.
8. Select a Gauge as stated by you’re and insert it in the clearance between
the arm and the valve stem, so if it is a sliding fit no excessive clearance the
valve not need resetting. If the stated is say 0.35MM, and a 0.37MM gauge
slide slightly tight in the I would not adjust it, but any clearance than
this then I would. If in the it states two clearance sizes, the clearance will
always be for the
9. The same routine applies to the cylinder, it doesn’t matter is done first.
10. The clearances are via undoing the Locknut and rotating the in the
required direction, then the locknut.
11. Once you have the above the valve clearances are
12. Replace all covers and plugs the rear wheel to select gear.
13. At the end of action #6 with the at the uppermost position, if you wanted to
true TDC this is normally on the flywheel, by removing the rubber on the
clutch housing and looking in you see a scribed line on the surface. marks
will be also for setting the ignition timing. You may to rock the engine as
prescribed about 25MM either way to align the line with the
marker/pointer.
14. So if you’re setting the timing, you MUST use the timing on the
flywheel, but if you’re just the valve clearances Nos 1-12 suffice. Please note
each cylinder will its own marks (2) on the flywheel for both and tdc,
you cannot use ONE set of marks for cylinders. The two marks per cylinder
scribed on the flywheel will be 30MM or so to each other. If you the engine
the way it runs (via gear) the timing mark appears first will be for
