One of the most fun little we’ve ridden in years happens to be this 1966 Guzzi Stornello, our entry in the America. The Guzzi belongs to fan, collector and friend of the Stewart Ingram. Back in Editor Backus and I flew San Francisco the day before the Legend of the Concours d’Elegance in Half Bay, Calif. and hopped the to Ingrams’ house.

Once there, he showed us his collection of small Italian and was kind enough to lend us the and a newer Ducati Monster to as our transportation around the Bay area for the

Though suffering at the time a bad set of steering head bearings, the proved to be reliable and fun throughout the as Backus and I rode more 300 miles up and down the California covering the Legend show and getting in a nice ride up 1 to Point Reyes Station, and back the Sunday after the Though not a fast machine by any of the imagination, the 125cc, four-… was a great little ride for the narrow streets of San Francisco.

We even made a few early-morning down the infamous crookedest in the world, the one block section of Street that’s known for its red and hairpin turns. The left-foot heel-toe required a bit of extra brain-training to smoothly at first, but with a bit of the tiddler became a fun, to ride bike with charm and a lovely, slightly-worn

Backus fell in love the bike and threatened to bring it to Kansas with him, but prevailed, and we thanked Ingram and the little bike at his place and home. Who could have that the Stornello would wind up being friend of the Dave Miller’s Motogiro ride more than a later?

Miller, you might teaches motorcycle restoration at College in San Francisco. We highlighted his restoration classes in a story the Grade in the July/August 2006 Miller and Ingram are friends, and Ingram offered up his Stornello to as a ride for the upcoming Motogiro Dave jumped at the chance.

After freshening the top end of  engine, attending to the bearings, and a small amount of and fettling, Miller has the bike all up and ready to go, and is looking forward to the miles of the Motogiro he’ll in the upcoming week aboard the Though not perfect cosmetically, Miller and Ingram agreed it was best to restore the bike but to leave it in its period paint, and vinyl. That means if you get a to see any of the Rally next week, it be easy to pick out Miller and our Stornello. After all, it look just like it here in our photos! — Hall
