My Short-Lived Guzzi Romance

Moto Guzzi v65 sp

So I met the Moto V65 sp on Tuesday at Bike Night.  said it was for sale, and he let me sit on it.  It was a tall, but not too tall.  It was light, and balanced.

It was easy to put on its center He offered to let me test ride it, but I did not that was a good idea I had already indulged in a couple of I took Robb’s contact and went home.

The next day I was thinking about that Guzzi V65 sp.  Such a looking bike.  It was in perfect Just my size.  A classic

Not too fast, not too flashy, but very I tried to research it on the internet, but I find very little about that bike.  is only one other one like it in the for sale right now, and not in very good condition.  This Guzzi V65 sp was beginning to like a rare collectors I was falling in love with the of owning a Moto Guzzi.

I never thought I would own I thought they were all too big and for me.  Not this one.

I Robb an email.  He agreed to it by Len’s on Saturday so I could ride it.  Whoo-Hoo!  night I met up with the guys Len’s shop at the Mayday.

all like Moto Guzzis.  had all seen that bike.  I Dave had even worked on They all said it was a very bike.  They said the cylinder needed some

They said Robb was a nice guy.  Len encouraged me to let him ride my Honda, because had said he was looking for a project

The days before this ride were building in kinda like the days going on a first date a guy who is not only good looking, but and romantic too.  You know…  about it…  talking about it… plans… getting feedback friends…

Finally the day arrived for the ride.  I got up early to get ready.  I coffee to be sure I was awake and I chose my gear carefully for the I had planned to ask for some extra for the test ride so I could it out on Miami River Road and try it out on of the turns.

Bummer that there any curvy roads closer town.

Eric got up to start the Apparently it had not had enough time on the tender this winter, he had difficulty getting it started.  I put Lucas fuel system in the gas tank hoping that clean out the carbs.

Unfortunately it did not much gas in it.  Bummer.  I have filled the tank I parked the bike.  My poor It’s not getting the TLC it needs.

It is too much time sitting.  Not time running.  Eric that I give it a good run I take it over to Len’s.  he went back inside.  I had a time getting the bike out of the around the other bikes, the air and all the other things in the way.

bummer.  Now I was leaving much then I had meant to.  I did not to go straight to Len’s without the bike up, letting it run a bit and (hopefully) a bit of charge on the battery.

So I hopped on 74 and ran out to Bend Road and back.  I a little embarrassed to be offering it for a ride without spending a time with it first to sure it is running well.

By the time I got to Len’s I was 20 minutes for my date with Guzzi V65 Robb didn’t seem to though.  He introduced us properly.  He to me that the parts for the rear cylinder had finally come in, so if I the bike he would give me the He said the front suspension a little work.

He explained how model of bike had the front and brakes linked for maximum power, so be careful.  He gave me a of the controls, and off I went.

It took us a few to build rapport.  Guzzi was then I remembered.  His tach and were in opposite positions on my other bikes.  The speedo was not accurate.  At first I thought it was in

Then I realized it was in both and kilometers, and that it was just very fast.  I had a hard finding the break lever my right foot, and when I did the bike stopped right Great breaks.  Guzzi was very to ride.

The throttle was not as touchy as on my BMW.  time I slowed down my would bump the lower Ouch.

I guess I could the lower fairing off, but would detract from the beauty of the bike.  What a to do that.

I rode out 74 to Rybolt Rd. to Miami River Rd.  I around at Blue Rock and back.  I was sad to come back, but I did not to keep the bike too long.  I the way it handled.  Light weight, balanced, responsive steering.

bike fit me, but my knees were bruised.  And the seat was terribly As I passed a police car I realized I had no how fast I was going.  The speedo 50, but I did not get a ticket, even though I was in a 35 mph I got on 74 and started to head back home.

I flew over a heave and the bike wobbled My first thought was “That’s It will right itself.  stay light on the bars.”  It wobbling after a bit.

it wobbled again as I went the second frost heave.  I “That’s just odd.”  the third one I started to think there might be something with the bike.  Then I what Rob had said about the

I wanted a bike that was and steady like Clint not one that shimmied like Pam

Oh.  It was then that I what a relationship with bike would involve.  strong handsome classic collector’s bike needed who could give it all the love and it not only deserved, but needed.  who could tend to the seals in the master cylinder.  Someone who fix up the suspension and replace the fork Someone who would be willing to down a working speedometer and it.

Someone who could adjust riding style so as not to get their bruised.  Someone who would it clean and not let the battery run down.  bike needed constant and attention.  All the things I could not do for my because although I admire and I like riding them, I do not working on them.  I realized even though I had a bit of a crush on V65 sp, we were just not a good

Even though he is a wonderful I am just not ready to commit to type of relationship.

I sorrowfully brought Mr. Guzzi V65 sp to his owner.  I did not make an offer on I was experiencing the let-down one has after on a date with someone and then realizing that you do not a future together.

Robb disappointed too.  He wants the to go to a good home.  It doesn’t fit him he hits his knees on the plastics He loves the bike, and likes on it, but it’s uncomfortable for him to ride.  He is too tall for it.

He seemed a bit interested in my but he said he is moving.  I suspect he be buying another bike after he sells his handsome
