Perfect for summer: 1997 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport

For Sale: 1997 Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport

It’s officially summertime, and I can’t think of a better way to spend the days than loping over my favorite roads on something like this. This big, two valve twin is the Moto Guzzi equivalent of a Ducati Supersport – lots of torque and the relatively simplicity of air cooling. Sure, this isn’t a razor-sharp canyon carver like many wanna-be replica hypersportbikes, but a good rider can maintain a good pace in relative comfort and with relatively low effort.

Not a bad way to go.

Regular RSBFS readers have seen a few other Guzzis come across these pages, including a nearly identical 1100 Sport as posted by Ian. While today’s bike does not sport quite the carbon fiber upgrades, it does appear to be in very good condition and has very low miles for the year. Note the fuel injection – this is the first year it was offered on the big twin.

From the seller:

This motorcycle was originally sold by BMW Motorcycles of North Dallas on 10th December 1996. The original sales price was $11,600 + $190 Freight. I purchased the bike from RPM Cycles also of Dallas on 15th August 2006. At that time the bike had accumulated a total of 2,289 miles from new.

Today its total mileage is 4,967.1. This is the first year of the fuel injected Sports.

Since purchasing the bike I have installed a complete set of stainless steel Stay In Tune exhaust headers and mufflers at a cost of well over $1,000.00 and a new set of rear view mirrors. The header pipes have been treated to Performance Coatings (ceramic) which will insure that they never discolor.

Since owning the bike it has always been stored inside a climate controlled environment. Although it does have a rev limiter, to my knowledge it has never been near redline due to the low mileage. A new set of Pirelli tires front and rear were installed when I purchased the bike as well as all hydraulic lines were flushed.

The bike uses an Odyssey dry cell battery.

This low mileage bike looks to have been well cared for over the years. There have been some minor mods (pipes and mirrors as per the seller, plus the WP shock looks to be an add-on), but nothing outrageous or likely to detract from the value of the bike. I bet those Staintune pipes boom out a sonorous note as this bike chugs along a winding two-lane road!

The current asking price for this bike is $4,625 with reserve not met. These are generally $6,000 – $8,000 machines depending upon condition. This bike looks to be a solid rider, and should fetch somewhere in the middle of that range. For more information and to check out all the pictures,
