Review: Moto Guzzi 1400

Even before I my Suzuki GSX1400, I had always a Guzzi.

Sadly then, as the price is too rich for me.

Still, a man can

With that in mind I a test ride of the new Moto California. 1400cc of glory.

love it when someone you the keys to a $26,000 motorbike and — see you in half an hour, fun !

In any event I thought you might a review of sorts.

(Please me my many likely typographical

My impressons:

I love:

That V-twin that twists the to the right when blipped at the

The fact that Guzzi managed to smooth it out as the revs so it doesn’t shake your out.

The modern shaft drive without that typical reaction they used to

The look of the thing.

The one I rode is the which is the … version than the fukll dresser one. Closer to the GSX (in some you could say. It’s GORGEOUS with amazing to detail.

The way it goes !

During the ride the pillion in a million tome. I like it but it doesn’t go fast.Well now let’s see. The has 3 different computer maps, you do need to read Italian to what they are. One is for (can’t even recall word that was). — Turismo — is self explanatory.

The third is not hard to figure out Using the rather odd method of the starter button with the closed to cycle through the I selected Veloce. Oh yeah. Up second, l crack open the and HOLY HOLE IN THE DONUT This thing pulls a teenage boy and cracks on.

Before i it I was doing (insert your here) kph so I buttoned off and just it. I must have had a grin on me than my face by this

The way it stops. ABS brakes, very on a large bike.

Not so enamoured by:

application of heat.

The transverse of the cylinders means that the riders knees / shins are in close proximity to some hot bits of metal. While not going to directly contact it at 6ft my knees weren’t far away the heads) and there are heat (sort of) between you and the exhaust — there is a lot of hot air that against your leg. so even through Kevlar

In cold weather (are you you English types?) thsi be quite handy but here in Queensland. not so much.

The gear and rear brake levers.

to be fair this is the first I’ve ridden a bike foot boards rather pegs. I kept wanting to put my a bit further back (GSX and felt I had to conciously lift my off the board to change gear or use the brake. I’ve no doubt get used to it.

Price of bike and (especially)

It’s never a good when you ask how much the top box costs rather than answer, the says. The Moto Guzzi is the of the motorcycle world. Accessories are not but they are excellent quality which will last a time. Perhaps he meant weren’t Italian.

Anyway I pursue it.

The price of the (Touring) dresser version of this is AUD $26,990 ride-away. That’s $26K more than I This cleaner looking version is a few grand cheaper.

But a very few grand.

I this bike. If I could it I would buy it, no question, and despite few foibles.

But — which one?

be planning to do a fair bit of distance so for me the Touring version would more sense, especially as I a pillion. The seat is plusher a big grab rail, the bars swept back, a big screen and lovely looking panniers. topbox available also.

cruising. And it’s a lovely thing.

If, on the other hand, I mainly to ride weekends than long distance, and not with a pillion, then I get the Custom version. Not only is it cheaper but also shows off the of the bike even better, attention to detail not hidden panniers etc. The lack of has also allowed Guzzi to fit sporting suspension. Otherwise the two are mechanically identical.

The Custom has straighter bars, a very slightly more position.

If forced to choose, I the Custom version, but (for the I lead) would own the Touring Sure as heck I’d be either way.

1400 is a magic number.

Feel to ask any questions.
