RideApart Review: Moto V7 Racer Record

What’s New :

a couple things going on so let’s start at the beginning.

Guzzi’s V7 range has been refreshed for 2013. The engine is 70 new and equipped with a distinctive, central throttle body. a power increase from 48 to may not sound like much, but it that peak power at 500rpm lower in the rev range and as power as the previous model’s 1,000rpm lower. That’s a more full mid-range.

economy also benefits, now the V7’s 5.8 gallon tank an incredibly useful 310-mile

Torque increases only a pound-foot to 44, but arrives at the same, 2,800rpm.

Much of that is to a new ECU, new dual O2 sensors and a new shape that raises from 9.2 to 10.2:1. Pistons are redesigned to be stronger, without any weight.

The base V7 Stone. A bit different from the bike you see huh?

The look of that has also been cleaned up, around the valve covers. fins also equal cooling.

There’s other but still meaningful changes too. An aluminum tank the old plastic item, while capacity. Wheels, across the lose weight, including the items seen on the Racer.

Forks remain unadjustable, 40mm items, but are now equipped improved damping.

With Aluminum tank, Guzzi is importing the chrome V7 Racer to the for the first time. At $9,990, model brings a $1,600 over the base V7 Stone, but adds seriously nice clip-ons and spoked wheels, as as stand out design features the red frame, leather tank numbered badge on the top yoke, aluminum throttle body and single seat fairing. substantially, there’s also remote-reservoir Bitubo shocks.

So far so The Record is an add-on kit for that Retailing for an additional $1,990, it the fairing, screen, an all-new design with a kicked-up plus all mounting brackets to integrate the above.

The bike you see is also fitted with the Arrow slip-on exhaust which sheds weight and power in both the top-end and but requires no ECU re-programming. It’s not legal, but isn’t annoyingly

I’ve been riding the around Los Angeles for a couple now. Through heavy it’s a revelation thanks to the slimness brought by the clip-ons. is easy and the performance confidence-inspring, if not fast.

One of the best things about the V7 is their low weight. At just (wet), they’re a full lighter than the Triumph While that bike a touch faster thanks to its the V7s are lighter on their feet and easier to push around.

pays dividends for novice and riders alike, there’s not a bike out there that more natural from the than a V7.

Highway miles to light one unexpected advantage of the — long range comfort. the fairing does an admirable job of some wind blast, but really the riding position and that make it feel more modern and comfortable other models in the V7 range. seat is hard as a board and but supports your sit bones in the right position, leading to posterior discomfort on long

And believe me, I’m sensitive to posterior right now.

The rear-sets increase the leverage your are able to apply, without them. Ground clearance is boosted. In fact, I touched down during my time the bike, something I can’t say virtually anything else doesn’t come with at three Rs in its name.

Clip-ons, too, do a great job of just enough weight to aid control, while actually to move the ergonomics in a more direction, which increases

And those new ergonomics are what led to the surprise with the Record. the stock V7 is a fun, broadly-capable bike that’s more able to get a little sporty, but up Piuma from Malibu I found something else That weight over the the new motor, the Racer’s improved and your feet up a little bit the Record into a little carver.

It’s no 600, but in its own quirky, characterful way, solid fun to ride fast.

I was in jeans in these photos, so things dialed back, but had I some leathers, knee for these photos would been no problem. The ergonomics body position easy and you can get of lean out of the stock tires.

Good :

Pulling up at a stoplight to a guy in race leathers on a GSX-R1000. the got an appreciative nod. Doubly so at the light, after I’d beaten him through traffic.

The V7’s air-cooled 744cc has always been about gently plinking as you walk but now it’s about smooth too. The power band is and linear, making progress if not lightning fast.

The Arrow strike the right balance engine note and noise You’re not going to set off any car alarms or the cops you’re coming, but you are to feel like you’re an honest-to-god motorcycle.

The rear works very well, tangibly decent damping and the spring weight for sporty with my 168lbs frame

Feel through every is superb, even if capability is limited compared to a modern replica. That equals of confidence whether you’re in on the highway, or in a canyon.

Every. Time. You climb onboard you feel like you’re on a memorable adventure. Isn’t what riding bikes is all

What’s Bad :

The 320mm single disc/four-piston Brembo/braided steel front brake sounds but lacks outright stopping An upgrade to the pads and maybe master cylinder is needed if you plan to ride it fast.

The non-adjustable forks remain soft and under damped. quality is excellent, but the bike to move around a little too once you start dialing in Gs.

disappointing that, for $1,190, the cans aren’t road It’s not as if they’re loud, you get the the budget just wasn’t to homologate them.

The detailing is a over the top, making the feel a little too self-conscious. A brushed finish to the aluminum would be less flashy chrome and the number plates are over kill.

The clutch is to be a little on the heavy side for the women and novices that otherwise find the V7 absolutely

Despite the fuel-injection, the first few after cold starts can the bike a little reluctant to away from a … without big throttle and much slip.

You can’t carry a on what’s surely one of the most bikes out there. Girls ask for rides. You will have to them no.

$9,990 + $1,990 for the kit + $1,190 for the Arrow exhausts = That’s a lot of money for a bike 50bhp and fairly basic That’s just a couple dollars less than the Triumph Daytona 675R .

A stunning bike to look at, character and modern reliability the Record absolutely unique These are going to be a rare and their owners will be for it.

More fun, more and better looking than else in the V7 range, the Record is the best looking bike on right now complete with payments and a warranty and no oil leaks. If looking to recapture a vintage experience without the hassle, you do any better than this.
