1200 Sport slipping clutch Hi, I’m a new member. I have just bought my 1st Guzzi, a second hand 1200 Sport (2 valve) in Queensland and have just arrived home in Victoria after riding 2700kms in 3 days.

The bike is an absolute joy to ride, and I am very pleased with it, despite the clutch starting to slip under hard accelleration after only 9000 kms. The engine has so much torque that I’m not surprised the clutch cannot cope. Is this a common problem with the 1200 2 valve engine?

I have read in a V11 forum that the best procedure to replace the clutch is to remove the engine, instead of the gearbox.

Can anyone please advise on the 1200 Sport.

Defending my V7 Classic; Your help is welcome! I have 6000 miles on my V7C and enjoy this bike more and more every time I hop on board. I have had a 2006 Black Bonnie with the 790 engine and Had to put a pile of money in it to get the performance that I have with the Guzzi right off the showroom floor.

I have no problem keeping up with my son and his Busa in the twisties (as well as a 70 year old can :)) It will cruse all day at 80-85 MPH if i care to, as anything above that does not interest me at this time in my life. If you need to ride at over 100 MPH, I hope you have a good insurance policy and dressed like a Moto-GP racer, not like the squids that ride half naked with their full-faces helmets.


The bike has plenty of all around power for me, and is fun, and that is what riding a motor bike should be and not a white knuckle experience on every ride. The only performance mods I have done was to remove the charcoal canister, switched the crossover pipe to a Stucchi, and put on the Guzzi-Tech sump extender (more oil for engine protection). What I gained with this is a quicker throttle response, and it looks like better gas mileage.

For comfort I switched to the cafe seat, added 1 in bar risers and added grip-puppies to fatten up the grips and eliminated finger cramping (have old arthritic fingers). Put Napoleon bar end mirrors, and a National Cycle DX wind screen.
