1957 Moto Morini SetteBello in Austin, TX

Sold privately for an undisclosed price (obviously much higher than the top bid…)

With one day and 2 hours left, this 1957 Moto Morini Settebello is on eBay.  Reserve not met.  This is one of the very best Giro Bikes money can buy, possibly the best.

The owner’s representative did an excellent job in representing the bike and giving a good account.

In 1957 Moto Morini built this unbelievable little performer that kept pace with most of the 250′s of its day. The “Settebello” as it was so named (Seven of Diamonds in Italian) stood alongside other, more softly tuned models called “Trumps” (Three Sevens). This little 175 overhead-valve engine was a 15hp road-racer that was loosely based on Morini’s 125 factory racer.

It was a huge success upon its release and it could propel itself (all 222 lbs. of it) to a then amazing speed of 88mph. It was widely used across Europe throughout the late 1950′s and early 1960′s for track and hillclimb competition, carrying riders like Agostini to the checkered flag. An astonishing feat for its day.

This bike represents well showing only 1134 miles on the odometer. The compression is strong and it runs great. It had been sitting for a few months so we pulled the carb, cleaned it and reassembled it and it started right up.

Runs like a top.

Among the world of Morinis or any Italian single for that matter, this one is truly unique. With its beautifully styled touches like the sculpted tank and finned engine sump, this bike is sure to make a statement about the taste of its builder and new owner. The clip-on handle bars, tank loops (ready for a nicely made chest pad/rest) also make a very sporty statement indeed.

My personal favorites are the front brake vents and the rear brake housing fins. This shows serious attention to detail that modern bikes simply don’t get. It even has vincent-esque features like the front axle handle!

The current owner is a collector/connoisseur of vintage bikes and specifically Italian singles and is certainly sad to see this one go. It’s well regarded by all ……The photos show well the condition of this machine. I’d rate it an 8.5 out of 10 knowing that it could use a little detailing, but overall it’s extremely presentable for showing and certainly for riding to your local vintage meet-ups.

No repairs or reconditioning are needed. The bike shows well with no concerns or noticable wear. Almost like new.

This bike could also serve as a conversation piece or display without any work needed.
