Most people tend to for one of the well-known Morini Sport or models. But at opposite ends of the you’ll find the super-sleek and the rufty-tufty Kanguro. So how did Ken Philp to own both?

I first saw a Kanguro at Court in 1982, and was impressed as it was an V-twin. I had a medical problem in so got rid of several bikes and bought one, the first Kanguro NLM had in the shop.

It just kept going I wanted it to! It gave me a LOT of pleasure in spite of its weight, and I’m a — 5’5. I only got rid of it in because I only have 15% capacity now.

I can’t say was anything that I DIDN’T about it. I used it for enduros, Weston Beach Race, trials, and so on, and once covered 720 in 20 hours on an MCC event.

In total I covered about miles. There were no problems, only those were my fault!

Anyone a Kanguro should keep of the first X-models. The X1 and X2 have frames, and the X cracks the frame at the footrest point. The X1 has reinforcement

The headlamp is only AC direct so output varies with speed. It’s also a lighting system, with a small battery!

So, having owned the Kanguro new, I really was very with the motor. Then I saw a of a new Dart in the press, and wasn’t too — until I saw one close-up at the Court Show in 1998. I DROOLED!

So I watched NLM unpack the one they had from Harglo, and it straight away.

It’s a 1990-registered Moto Morini so is now almost 16 years old. got 54,000km on it and is still in very condition. It’s had a few mods, all by me — like the right gearchange / left foot a Honda NTV650 hydraulic on the rear Marzocchi monoshock, tank, and handlebar raisers.

I also fitted it with a KN air with suitable jet changes, and a in the exhaust in place of the unobtainable chamber, and a Micron exhaust can off a 750SS. The latter was done to reduce weight, partly to it sound a proper V-twin! also had extra spacers in above the internal fork

Without doubt, its best are its looks, and performance. The Dart is not fast (I’ve seen a max of on my digital cycle speedo which is very accurate, by the but the handling is SUPERB! It’s economical and has given 64mpg its life (I have a record of all the used from new).
