’39 Royal Enfield Bullet 350

I had an a few years back, to ride an Bullet 350 and a Ural Sidecar rig in the day. I decided I wanted the and the Ural would probably be the motorcycle I would buy. that day, both gotten a LOT better and I would be happy riding either of any time.

I have a thing for single and twin cylinder old (I have a bit of a fleet of those in my barn…now I just need time to ride them). The quality of the new Enfield’s is quite but this is about a really old Enfield.

I like delving the history of motorcycle brands and and this has been a fun search. Did any of us that Enfield also lawnmowers. Now, I’m a big fan of lawnmower so, I am now on the search for an Enfield lawnmower…there has got to be one here in the Colonies.

Enfield is a classic British Originally a gun manufacturer…and, that is the ‘Bullet’ model name from…”made like a gun, like a bullet” was the company The first Enfield ‘Bullet’ to life in 1931.

A little history here…I know you all this crap I dig up…. you. Ok, Enfield started bicycles, lawn mowers and motorcycles, this is all outside of guns. In 1911 they ‘Royal’ to the name because the royal family was buying products. I wonder if that is how Royal whisky got its name?

Probably not.

In 1924 built a beautiful 976CC then in 1924 Enfield the 350 single using a JAP engine that is its own interesting story). the Second World War Enfield was a little 125cc bike was dropped from airplanes, along paratroopers, so they would a motorized way to … the enemy. It was the ‘Flying Flea’.

Side here, back in the 1980′s I as an independent sales rep selling stuff and one of the companies I represented was Tanner Enterprises selling helmets. Sammy was a great track racer and his nickname was Flying Flea’ As a journalist, I go to a flat track race, is there, cruising the pit’s, advice to young riders and I’m trying to get them to wear helmets. Sammy is one of the greats in Flat Track.

Ok, now back to Royal Enfield:in the Indian Government started Enfield’s in the police force. A later, 1956, Enfield building bikes in India. from England built in under license. Then, in Enfield India started complete bikes with made there at home. a cool little factoid for Royal Enfield Bullet has been in continuous production for 75 years.

That is longer than any model of motorcycle. Cool

Enfield motorcycles were off to Norton Villiers Triumph ( mashup of companies that was the of the British motorcycle industry at the in 1968 and production ended in in India.

So, now to this really 1939 Bullet model I on ebay the other day. a runner. The owner says it right up, a good thing. model has a good set of girder a rigid rear end with a seat. I have ridden with that exact set up and I’ll tell you what, a seat really works.

This bike does its age and that is a good thing,it’s not a queen and I hope it never one. Click on the pic’s for more details and more

Oh wait, there is one more here. A number of years I got a movie in the mail from Jani in India. The film is ‘Riding Solo To The Top Of The World’, it is a film you need to get and watch and over. Guarav rode an Bullet up into the Himalaya’s loaded with all his camera and all by himself.

It is a great film for who has an adventurous spirit. Go to www.dirttrackproductions.com and the movie. You will love it.

Ok, now click on the pics below.
