Hi, first of all let me just say a great site this is I’m amazed at the incredible amount of and feedback people give -it’s simply fantastic fair dues to the creator and of this site for getting it up and this really is a gold for travelers to India. Bravissimi e

I would really appreciate suggestions, comments, advice, to help me plan a trip I to make next year mid-March/early April and returning May (60-90 days). Like the time (1997-98), I will be it, Royal Enfield all the way baby. so any as regards current prices, places to buy or rent would be a help.

The last time I was in I bought the bike I did my trip on, wasn’t an option in ’97. It was a 5 yr old hand RE 350 Bullet, bought a dealer/mechanic in Delhi, in Karol (unfortunately I don’t remember for how which I sold at the end of my trip, in all more or less. I do remember I sold it for more or less for I paid for it — I may have a 100quid on it (it was in good nick..honest!!).

I know that Japs lighter more reliable but that is not the point. I could go on for on “Zen and the Art of. “ but lets say I that the has soul, and motorbikes to me are more simple means of transport.

I say that when I bought the I had the seller strip and rebuild the and head (not a big job really, and one I’d anyone buying a second bike to do) while I watched him do it and sure he did it right without stuff (Indian mechanics can be but they are excellent botchers as best watch them. an informative experience, great a free Hindi lesson, you the locals, they’ll buy you chai..you buy chai..and if you know your you become the Bullet Wallah and … chuffed when say so..) … new piston rings and etc obviously where installed new not cleaned up used ones as generally tried to do. ), this gave me the opportunity to see the internals of the and get a feel for the bike. it’s a of hours work. As for reliability, from continuously rewelding of frame and luggage racks were shaken apart by the the roads gave the bike I had no probs with the bike at (ooops. a shock absorber did

when I was two up going down a on the return trip from

I rewelded it. worked fine for the of the trip. it was very lucky my was with me to bring the shock to the town to have it rewelded..otherwise I’d had to go there on foot. also lucky I wasn’ t … on occasion as the back of the bike collapsed on the back wheel this happened and caused me to big time. ) anyways as for maintenance, I did all the stuff..checked and replaced essentials..oil it ran like a clock. I really do Enfields get a bad press. what do expect from a bike 40 yrs ago. It must be said I met a lot of who learnt a lot about bikes their experience on a Bullet, and people who really were a onto themselves by riding

Anyways, I’d appreciate advice on how to roll this time I maybe should mention, been riding and working on for the best part of 30 yrs (since I was but all information is very very Living in Italy this 20 years, I have also extensively Europe on a bike, camping. I’m no fair weather I ride a Harley every day to (70km round trip),until I it a couple of months ago my second was a Fazer 1000. as they say to ride, ride to live”.

I’ll be getting into around the end of March, so the weather be good. (confirm?) my itinerary is as yet this presumes of course I fly Delhi. If I fly into Delhi, it sort of indicate a more trip, which might be considering the weather and the heat (I no problems with the heat..I in Rome where it is generally 32°-48°C 4 months of the year or but I have been to the north, I it. and am strongly attracted to going again.

I have no intention of making my a rerun, but saying that, are places roads I’d like to see My last trip went like this. there sometimes/often night stops these place names. we rode in the dark. and I wouldn’t it to anyone. or rather I would advise against it. Animals wear lights, and you can’t that all other road have working lights as

We did are entire trip without of any sort. (unless some bells I bought at the Camel in Pushkar and tied to the crash of the bike count as insurance ) so any serious accident would bucked us big time. but yea. time some insurance well be a good idea. so any on that would be good

The trip back then like this:

1. Delhi (to look for a bike to buy. find one.)

2. Rishikesh (Sept. ’97 return to Delhi, a bike in Karol Bagh !)

3. -Shimla

4. Shimla- Kullu

5. Kullu Valley —
